Totally OT: Kid Rock lyrics - Bawitdaba

For some reason, I found myself looking up the lyrics of Bawitdaba by Kid Rock, and was pleasantly surprised - they're pretty good. Well-crafted.

The song makes a list of 'questions that don't have any answers' - mostly street people doing crazy stuff that doesn't make sense: midnight glancers, topless dancers, g's with forties, chicks with beepers, etc. Each verse ends with a possible answer from Kid (since he can't explain the rest of those things): "I said it's all good and it's all in fun, Now get in the pit and try to love someone"

The third & fourth lines of the first verse, according to many lyric sites, are:

"The candid freaks, cars packed with speakers,

The G's with the forties and the chicks with beepers"

Here's the thing: 'candid freaks' seems wrong. It doesn't make any sense in the context of the song. If you listen to Kid sing the lyrics, it doesn't sound like 'candid freaks'. It sounds sort of like 'gandafreaks'. Which is the source of the problem in the first place. Enunciation, Kid, enunciation!

So, what's the real lyric - 'gang of freaks'? 'ganja freaks'? You know, a bunch of kids in a hotrod honda, loaded with so many speakers that you can hear (feel) them two blocks away. Or maybe something else? I'd bet money it's not 'candid freaks'.

Here's the song on Youtube

. The lyric in question is at 1:42

I'm not swayed by the fact that every lyrics site on the interwebz says it's 'candid freaks', that doesn't necessarily make it correct. You know how these things go - someone posts their (wrong) version of the lyrics. Someone else copies it, then more people copy that, and pretty soon, it's on dozens of sites, and people assume it's correct. (The same principle applies in many other instances, by the way, not just lyrics, but that's another story).

I know, I've got too much free time on my hands.

So, anybody here ever play keys with Mr. Rock? Could you ask him for me?

I don't care if every lyrics site on the interwebz say it's 'candid freaks', that doesn't make it correct. You know how these things go - someone posts their (wrong) version of the lyrics. I'm pretty sure they're not just the same, but exactly the same. That's definitely what happens with guitar tab. One guy posts it and it's copied everywhere, errors and all.

I'm not sure people assume it's correct, but no one bothers to fix it. I see the errors and just laugh and do what I know is right.

Sorry, I don't know Kid Rock. More importantly, I don't know Pamela Anderson either. (I know a Pamela Anderson, but she's definitely not that Pam Anderson)

Kid Rock site has those same lyrics. ???

kID ROCK LYRICS

Well, maybe I'm wrong, then. All I know is, when I listen to it, it doesn't sound like those are the lyrics he's singing.

Candid freaks. Hmm... Well, one of the meanings is 'disposed to criticize severely; blunt'. Maybe that could apply.
