MuzikTeechur
That Korg has been through a few campaigns, huh? Can someone tell me what the large (orange?) button is next to the mod wheel (?) on the Nord Piano? It looks like it's just begging to get whacked off of there. It looks like it's just begging to get whacked off of there. That's a Nord Stage, and you are looking at the famous Nord pitch stick. The part you are seeing is actually a wooden knob with a groove for a finger on top. It's their pitch bender, and it barely moves. It's attached to a strain gauge or something. But anyway, you can do very expressive vibrato with it because there is no dead spot. The pic below is from a Nord Lead, but you get the idea: http://cachepe.zzounds.com/media/quality,85/brand,zzounds/nw_pitch_mod_xl-e7d7800f75ceb6e6372e8b76b31ef056.jpg Moe --- "I keep wanting to like it's sound, but every demo seems to demonstrate that it has the earth-shaking punch and peerless sonics of the Roland Gaia. I had no idea these guys were so well-heeled. Yeah, I found myself looking through the book titles on the shelves. Not quite enough resolution to read the titles on the CD's though....definitely a bit voyeuristic. I think they may rent this out to other bands so that may pay part of it. On the first run of the "Sky Blue Sky", they included a DVD of them rehearsing in the loft before going on tour. That was pretty cool; a more intimate view of the playing than you typically get on a concert DVD. When Jay Bennett was kicked out of Wilco (2001 or so) he must've taken a bunch with him. Anyway, interesting to take a look around. Thanks, Sam! "........! Sam Mullins
Really! I've heard the name, but I don't think I've heard any of their tunes. What style of music? They are a rock band in the best sense of the word. They span quite a bit of territory. Early on, they were considered an "alt country" band, but that was probably never accurate; too much pop influence. I think of them of as the 21st century version of The Band: folksy, poppy rock (if that makes any sense). Best thing to do is check a few youtube vidoes: Yamaha CK88, Arturia Keylab 61 MkII, Moog Sub 37, Yamaha U1 Upright, Casio CT-S500, Mac Logic/Mainstage + plugins, iPad Camelot + plugins, Spacestation V.3, QSC K10.2 www.stickmanor.com There's a thin white line between fear and fury - Stickman

There was actually a lot more in there for the rehearsal DVD I mentioned (obviously since they have two keyboardists in the band.) Joe Muscara
One of the cool things is that they have two keyboardists. One plays guitar sometimes, but it's neat to see two full vintage keyboard rigs up there. "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! One of the things I love about Wilco is that they are disciplined enough to have six guys in the band and have full arrangements without getting in each other's way. Then on top of that, they are really spontaneous in their live playing...rare combination for a rock band. That's the wooden pitch stick on the Stage. I tried one in a shop once and it would definitely take some getting used to. It´s very easy to get used to the pitch stick... very cool for vibrato and note-bendy wanking, also strategically placed next to the mod wheel so you can use both at the same time for uber-wanking. There is no ´dead zone´ or notch at the zero point, so you can do some very subtle modulations with it... also very high frequency modulations a la guitar vibrato. It takes almost no effort to move it a bit and the resistance increases the further you bend it... just like a guitar string.

Cool...I'll have to spend some more time with it next time in I'm in a shop. I like the idea of doing manual vibrato with it. I find LFO vibrato pretty unsatisfying most of the time and it's hard to do with a normal pitch bend wheel.
