ITGITC
Users in Mac Forums and Apple Discussions have performed numerous tests that show the issue is real, only affects late-2009 Nehalem-based Mac Pros, and only shows itself under Mac OS X. Previous Mac Pros do not exhibit the same symptoms, nor do MacBook Pros. Strangely, booting affected Mac Pros into Windows 7 also eliminates the problems, leading one user to suspect the issue is related to power management kernel extensions. Additional tests show that the problem happens even when FireWire or USB audio interfaces are plugged, even if they aren't actively being used. http://pushpull.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/arte.jpg "Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent." - Victor Hugo
Geoff Grace
I'm glad I have a late 2008 pre-Nehalem model. Thanks for the heads up, zeronyne! Best, Geoff My Blue Someday appears on Apple Music | Spotify | YouTube | Amazon
linwood
I'm gettin' ready to pull the trigger very soon. I've seen rumors of a 12 core coming out, too. I'm not sure if it's a good time to go out and buy this month. I'm gonna drop several k on this mac, so I want to make sure I'm getting what I need. Sure don't want to spend 7-8k on a problem. Hey Geoff, did you try the lex native verb yet? Very nice.I got the demo yesterday. 13 more days left til I paypal 1.4k for it. http://lexiconpro.com/static.php?id=
Moog_Man
what kind of computer do you need to run that lexicon native set (ram/processor)? I'm guessing based on how powerful it is it would bring most standard systems to their knees in no time.

I'd love to read your impressions once you've spent some time with it, though. Bobadohshe
You and me both Linwood. I had practically pulled the trigger at the end of '09 but then I read that the 12 cores are expected late 1st quarter of '10, so I decided to hold on that much longer. I'm very glad I did, not only for the reasons mentioned in the above article, but because the latest iMacs are actually FASTER than the current Nehalem Macpros! (I'd go macpro of course for the same reasons you are Linwood.... http://static.kvraudio.com/i/b/uad2_family.jpg Kawai C-60 Grand Piano : Hammond A-100 : Hammond SK2 : Yamaha CP4 : Yamaha Montage 7 : Moog Sub 37 My latest album: Funky organ, huge horn section https://bobbycressey.bandcamp.com/album/cali-native
linwood
Love this verb. I'm using a G5 dual 2.5 w/10.4.11 and 6.5gigs ram. I did a thing today with 3 or 4 instances w/no problem. The thing sounds great. Now...When I buy the new mac I've also got to replace my 424pci card. I also have a UA2192 for my front end A-D D-A. I never record more than 2 trks at a time. My question is, Is there a different card I should consider that would give me better performance/sound rather than keepin' the 2408/424 combo? or does it matter since I've got the 2192 in front of it. Bobadohshe
Also Linwood, UA announced at NAMM that they would have some Lexicon verbs of their own developed this year as Lexicon is now one of their plug in partners. They probably won't be as extensive as that meaty bundle though. Still worth a look if you are considering the UAD card anyway.
