Joe Muscara
Any game where the winner can be determined in a "kick off" which is outside the flow of the game, is not a sport. I don't agree with most of your "not a sport" points about soccer, but this is one I agree with. Either keep playing or call it a tie. "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! Mr. B.
It ain't "football", football was not derived from rugbe, you all play with pads, none used in rugbe. Back sometime ago an NFL team went to England and played a rugbe team and lost horribly. The same rugbe team went to the US, learnt football and almost won. Please do not compare those games, they do not compare at all. More countries play rugbe, football, you call it soccer, cricket, table tennis than in the US, we are the minority, this fantastic country has not been around nearly as long as others have. I do wish we had the freedom the scandanavian countries enjoy and the literacy.

I'm not sure how the age of the US has anything to do with the fact that soccer ain't a sport, but if you're going to dog out the US for its population's literacy, I would expect you to be able to spell "rugby" and "Scandinavian" correctly, put spaces after commas in a sentence correctly, and not write run-on sentences. MAJUSCULE
*The referee does not add time based on whatever he wants, it's based on time that was taken for injuries, changes, etc. Let's count the ways I would qualify football/soccer to be a sport, shall we? -90 minutes of play with one break. -Hundred-some meter field. -Agility and dexterity needed for ball control. -Only three changes are allowed per game. That means 8 players are on for the full game, no matter what. -The goalie defends a goal 8 meters by 8 feet. (I believe) -Strategy is planned and improvised. If you'd like more, I will gladly supply, but I'm a little lazy. However, Let's have a look at worldwide popularity. American/Canadian football is played in two countries, plus a few people elsewhere. Football/soccer is played in every single place on Earth. The Worl Cup is actually a bigger event than the Summer Olympics. Now that's somethin'. [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQnZQFcLywM Wouldn't you say these guys are athletes? Wouldn't you say these guys are exciting? Instead of stiff-arming the defender in the face, they deke him pants off and embarrass him! But really, I'd say Dave Peirce is probably the most right in this thread. If you grow up with something, you understand every little aspect, every difficulty associated with the game. And you love it. Myself, after one American/Canadian football game, I've had enough for the week. Eric Website Gear page

yannis D
For you heat guys - you're more than welcomed in Greece in July... In a "good" year temperature reaches easily 40 Celsium and can go higher up to 46!! That happened three summers ago and it was a nightmare. That's why i always LOVE rain and snow and i never have enough - actually i'm happy it's gonna snow over here next week Grrr. I hate the people who live in Houston and complain about the heat and talk about loving when it gets cold. They can move somewhere else, the US is a big country (I understand you may not want to leave Greece for other reasons). Ohhh, i'd love to leave Greece for many reasons but this is more OT than football already Be grateful for what you've got - a Nord, a laptop and two hands
Threadslayer
There's a Canadian comic, whose name escapes me for the moment, who does a terrific bit about the relative masculinity of soccer players compared to hockey players. Soccer player: "Ow Ow Ow - I've fawllen and mussed me chest 'airs!" for example. eric
Getting back on topic for this OT thread. We had a huge amount of snow in VA the week before Christmas. Unusual for VA and it took a LONG time to melt as the temps stayed in the 20s for weeks. I left the East Coast 3 days ago with temps still in the upper 20s and unmelted piles of snow in my yard, to head to the West Coast. Landed to sunny and balmy 75-ish degrees on Friday and Saturday. Sunday was still beautiful, but a little cooler. Today it is pouring rain and very very windy. Not something that SoCal gets very much and it happens on my 2 days of tourism. I guess a rainy day in SoCal on vacation is better than a good day at work!

Mr. Nightime
Here in Melbourne, Florida we set a new record low of 25 on January 12. 5 days later, on January 17, we set a new record high of 82. Wish it would make up its mind. "In the beginning, Adam had the blues, 'cause he was lonesome. So God helped him and created woman. Now everybody's got the blues." Wish it would make up its mind. I was working in Miami about 10 years ago and saw it rain 18 inches in 24 hours. I would hope that set some kind of record. I've never seen anything like it. By comparison, the L.A. basin gets about 13 inches a *Year* on average. DanS
Yeah. I know all about rain. I think we've had like a quarter of an inch so far this year. What with that and temperatures plunging into the low 50's at night, I almost put on long pants the other day. I was going to say "I'm tempted to say f**k you"....... but I'm ACTUALLY going to say f**k you. I hate you !!!!!!!!
