I like `goal` more than `resolution`-if I don`t accomplish a goal that sucks, but I don`t

feel like I`m obliged to cut off a finger or something.

One goal is, brush up on a few fake book numbers and get in with the live jazz place down the street.

Record at least one honest to goodness song, with real people and all.

Already have the song, working on the demo version.

Same old surprises, brand new cliches-

This is the year I finally learn to sight read for guitar (not really a resolution, just a goal). I got the Berklee "Modern Guitar Method" book and I've been doing half hour a day. So far so good. I've been meaning to do it for ages, but it was never a priority. It's something I can work on a little bit at a time. With a one year old getting more mobile every day, and a day job becoming more demanding every year I need to do things I can work on a little bit at a time. Some days 15 minutes is all I have, and for me writing has always been a longer process. No time for gigs, either, so I guess I'm in a woodshedding phase.

I'm starting a policy of setting aside one week per month in which I will take no client sessions in the studio, i.e. one week just for me to work on my own music & nobody else's. Within that week I'm going to start taking lessons with a good buddy of mine who is a phenomenal improviser.

Start downsizing and sell some guitar, bass and keyboard stuff that I don't use anymore so someone can get some use out of it...may have to wait till next year though as things are pretty slow for a lot of folks and they need their money for necessaties...so I won't have to thing of a resolution again next year as I'll already have one...

Learn more tunes on guitar!

Start working on fingerstyle and maybe some jazz chord melody.

Work more on rhythm guitar, fast strumming, comping. Not that I'm lousy at it, but I'd like to do it better. Actually, just get a better handle on rhythm in general - practicing with a metronome and working with the "Basics In Rhythm" book at work when it's slow - where you count tricky rhythms that are written out, in synch with a CD. Not that they'd let me count or clap out loud at work......
