Ibanez UE 400 Multi Effects

Recommended Posts

Hi...I've been given an Ibanez multi effects unit, UE 400. Circa 1980. However, it doesn't have the footswitch which is necessary to run it.

Has anyone used one of these units and gotten round the footswitch...or built one?

cheers

Wow! Looks like a cool unit. I googled it but was unable to find any info on how the footswitch attaches. Is it a multi-pin cable?

If so, you could probably build one but it would take some work. You can get muti-pin connectors from Allied, Newark or Mouser or any of the other large component vendors. Footswitches too.

You'd also need a housing for the switches.

In the end it might be easier just to buy a few pedals.

Yeah it's a strange multi pin...there are schematics out there to build one, but that's a lot of work just to try the thing out.

Idunno, it might be very well worth it to make a footswitch for it, or have someone else make one for you.

Which version do you have- is it labled "distortion", or "overdrive"? If the latter, "overdrive", it probably has the equivalent of a "vintage" Tube Screamer under the hood. Those are generally more desirable, more people want the Tube Screamer overdrive of the "Overdrive" version of the UE-400; however, "YMMV", you may or may not like the distortion of the "distortion" version.

What all effects does yours have, Harvey?

HERE is a UE400 with footswitch on Ebay. The Buy It Now and shipping come to $224, which is probably a pretty good deal, all things considered. And, you'd have a back-up, or you could sell one of the two main units and let the footswitch be someone else's head ache...

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

Mine is the first generation one which, sadly, has the distortion rather than od. From what I gather from the net some people dig this tone and some don't. The other effects are compressor, phaser and stereo chorus/flanger. There is only a mono output however! By the second generation a stereo output was added.

Still, you've got yourself some old/"vintage" analog compressor, phaser, and chorus/flanger "pedals" in a box, as well as the distortion. And the latter (the dist) has got to be good for something. It all sounds like stuff that you'd want to have between the guitar and an amp's input, anyway, so being mono isn't such a bad thing at all.

Hey- does yours have a loop/insert on it, too? If so, too cool!

And apparently the order in which the individual effects feed from one to another can be changed to your liking; also too cool!

I really think it would be well worth it to get a footswitch rigged up for it; can't be too complicated. (Well, maybe a little.)

I'm searching and filtering info pertaining to the UE400/footswitch/schematics for ya right now, will be back...
