Alrighty, now there's some info comin' in for ya.

Also, motherfunky, a tip for you -- on this forum the participants are often more helpful and receptive the more careful you are with your writing. It's worth taking an extra few seconds to read your post before you post it. I'm not saying that you need to write like it's an essay for English class, but things like checking spelling and punctuation go a long way.

Ain't trying to hate, just telling it like it is here in these parts.

Peace.

This is a bass with active pickups plus a pre-amp, so simply looking at pots may not be heading in the right direction unless you are wanting to convert from active to passive EQ - and as the signal coming from the active pups may be quite low, I'd think that would be a disaster.

What's the problem with the pots/pre-amp?

sounds like you have a bad ground wire. if your preamp isn't making ground contact, it won't work, and it will contribute to very bad noises when you yourself act as a ground by touching the pots. i would inspect all the wiring -- at least visually, but if you have a multimeter, you can also check for continuity with the bridge and the sleeve of your cable (when it's plugged in).

verify the battery hasn't died, too.

Thanks for the PM.

To be honest - and this is no criticism - if you are unsure about pots etc & soldering, my advice would be to take it to a guitar tech who knows about these things.

I have a Cirrus BXP which I believe has similar electronics & pickups.

The Blend knob really is either Neck or Bridge on with a dip in volume at the middle, and I've heard from others that it's pretty much the same on their's.

If there's nothing much happening with your tone/volume, first:

Replace the battery or batteries, if you haven't already - if nothing changes then as Robb above says, the probabilities are you have a loose or broken wire. It may or may not be obvious (a) if there is a detached wire and (b) where to re-attach it.

If you can identify both of the above, you then must solder it back on. Do you solder? If you are new to it, it's relatively easy to damage things inside the control cavity with a very hot soldering iron.

My best advice is to take it to a nearby guitar tech & let him sort it out for you.

You personal sig. doesn't say where you are, but somewhere on this board there's a list of Techs & Luthiers in various areas - I've tried to find it but the search facility on this board remains a mystery to me - maybe one of the Moderators might be able to bump it up for you.

My Peavey Cirrus BXP has two batteries - one runs the active pickups & the other runs the preamp. You need both to run the bass. There's no passive switch option - which is why I always take a backup bass to a gig with me. Two years ago I had a battery die on me 30 seconds before we were due to go live playing on a radio show. Luckily that particular bass had a passive switch.

Keep us informed with how it goes, and don't be afraid to seek more advice, after all we all knew nothing at one time.
