Phil W
I spent many a month absorbed in M-Base music a while back. Steve Coleman's angular and intense music always appealed to me. The Maceo Parker and Charlie Parker influences sat together well and Steve is a master player. He uses some very funky bass players too: Lonnie Plaxico, Reggie Washington, Kevin Bruce Harris, Dave Holland, Meshell Johnson (now known as Ndegeocello among other names, Matthew Garrison, Anthony Tidd, Kenny Davis, David Dyson, James Genus and Bob Hurst. All those guys are available on albums and tracks Steve has now made available as free mp3s here: http://www.m-base.com/download.html And if you really dig it, why not buy some of his music at: http://www.m-base.com/recordings.html http://philwbass.com
johngoldsby
This is a great resource. Steve has really laid his music out there, and what incredible music it is . . . I would encourage everyone who is ready to check out some advanced, modern, heavyweight small-group jazz/funk to visit this site. www.goldsby.de
