5-string playing

I have been playing my Sadowsky 4 string for a while now. I put my Yamaha away so I could do the full immersion thing with the 4 as I have playerd my 5 exclusively for quite some time.

 

I like the 4 in the horn/soul/funk band. There isn't much need for a 5 string there. Still, there were a few tunes where I had to remind myself I don't have 5 strings.

 

I do miss it in the cover band a little. I definitely miss it in church.

 

I have a "detuner" on it, but I don't really like that.

 

Yes JeremyC - the E string on a 5 does sound different than on a 4.

 

I'm not sure if I'm sticking with the Sadowsky just because it sounds good (better?) - it does - or because "obviously" I should be playing that bass over my Yamaha.

 

I may try to trade for a Sadowsky 5.
