davinwv
The Hornsby thread got me thinking about how much I miss the simple, static pads in my Roland XP-50 and my friend's old Korg 01W/FD. What is the best VST for these types of sounds. I am NOT looking for overkill (Omnisphere, Atmosphere, Synth Squad, etc.), as I have no interest in other types of synth sounds, and am not into programming at all. I would just like something with a few good presets of this type that I could use to occaisionally fill space in a track. Any suggestions?
RABid
Dimension Pro from Cakewalk. Why? It was designed to produce those ROMpler sounds but with better quality. It does this by combining sampling and synthesis and usiing 4 layers of sounds in a single patch. It is a good value for what you get, created by Rene who is great, and has friendly copy protection so you can move it around on your computers. It works on both Windows and Mac. Sven Golly
Hmmmm... not sure about your 'static' requirement, but you might want to look into the Korg Legacy Collection (Digital Edition) and specifically the Wavestation emulator. Most of the WS patches have some animation to them (a good thing, in my book), but I'm sure there's something in there that'd do the trick for you. It throws the M1 into the mix as well, so there's that whole side to investigate as well.
Mark Schmieder
Korg Legacy Collection for its extremely complete M1 and follow-on models with all released add-on packs. They take the same approach with the Wavestation, including all of its add-on packs. Very cheap. I prefer Analog Edition, but occasionally use Digital Edition as well. I keep hoping they'll add EX8000 and EX800 emus. bloodyMary
I guess simple, static pads can be recreated on almost any synth, maybe a Virtual Analog VSTi will cover it for you? It won't do choirs and orchestral soundscapes, but I guess you're aiming for synthetic pads. Tonysounds
Sonic Synth II is cheap and has a lot of waht you're looking for. Hitting "Play" does NOT constitute live performance. -Me.
davinwv
Thanks again! I will check all these out. I just wish there was something more streamlined and simple that produced these sounds.
