OT; BBT is a twit!

Maybe it was too early, or he didn't get any sleep the night before, or he was high, or maybe it finally sank in that he wouldn't be sleeping with Angelina anymore, but man, what a jerk!

I've only watched the first couple minutes so far (time be's money, man!) but you could tell from his eyes & the pauses in his statements that he's either tripping (check the imploring look he casts to a bandmate @ the 1:30 mark)or concentrating on a prepared script of contrariness which he's turning the talk toward (I lean toward the latter b/c he gets more focused as things continue).

This looks like a radio studio but was it TV ?

The reason I ask is I wonder how many radio interviews are filmed w/a 3 or 4 camera set-up; is that SOP these days ?

all such interviews are arranged by artists contacting the media &, unless someone knows otherwise, I'd presume that the filming was done by the BBT people.

Was they whole thing some misfire or a deliberate stunt ?

BTW, I think BBT should portray John Prine in the eventual film bio...

He must have the same doctor Michale Jackson had. And I'm not joking either. He makes no sense through out the interview. Oh, and by the way, he's not as good as he thinks he is.

He's right down there with Gary Busey...

You have to watch the whole thing. He's pissed because the first thing the interviewer mentions about the band is Billy Bob's career and his affiliation with the band. I think Billy sees it to be totally irrelevant and starts responding irrelevantly to all of the questions asked to him. I think the DJ holds his ground quite well though. I think it was pretty dick of Billy Bob to act the way he did.

It was funny though!

what happened was BBT acting career was not supposed to be mentioned and you can see how he got all pissy as soon as the lead in segment broke his rule for the interview. man the tension was thick there. i noticed how lightly the others tread. awkward.

this was going nowhere fast. Billy had his arse up and he wasn't about to cool down. i doubt drugs were the problem , what we have here is a grown man sulking.

the remaining dates were cancelled..

i just realized that Unknown Hinson is in BBT's band.

What an ass. He is mad because he knows that the only reason he is even being talked about is because of his film career.

He wishes it was his music, and wants the radio DJ to 'pretend'.

My band never got on the radio in any interviews when our CD was done. The funny part is one of our good friends and former drummers was a damn PRODUCER of the biggest radio station in Detroit with a 600,000 person audience.

We STILL didn't get anything out of it.

Why? Well it is a closed loop of corporate marketing and media--just like everything else. Like the song lists at a radio station.. They are fixed. You HAVE to play a song from the list of like 300, cuz that is what is backed by the industry.

There is this illusion out there that bands have a chance to 'get signed' or 'get noticed'

But really thats not possible anymore, or highly improbable.

BBT is a jackass, and to me is disrespectful of this idea. He is a total primadonna, and obviously thinks he is God's gift to planet Earth. He wants to live in world of make believe and pretend that he is being noticed for his music.

What an ASS!!

Billy Bob, guess what? there are people who have not heard of your band or that you are a "musician" now. if you are interviewed on radio you can count on your past achievements being listed so the listeners know who you are and what you are doing.

the reality is your fame as an actor helped open some doors to a musical endeavor.

get over it.

you brought more attention to the fact you were/are an actor than the interviewer did.

I believe that it was a radio broadcast, half'.

Then one thing we must consider is the "staging" of this, as I mentioned above.

Who filmed it & with what intent ?

Deliberate controversy ?

i doubt any staging was done. CBC is our public Radio and Television broadcaster.

cameras in the studio isn't a big deal.

To reiterate, it's a multi-camera set-up.

Is that SOP for a radio bcast or something extra (& on whose part)?

don't know if it is standard, but like i said CBC is our public Radio and Television broadcaster so i wouldn't be surprised if they were doing a radio segment with a video version for later TV release.

he is a dick! but i have heard him play with Widespread Panic, Vic Chesnut, and Bruce hampton. so i guess he in with some really great musicians!

If he'd never gotten famous as an actor, he'd never gotten close enough to any of those guys to get backstage, let alone onstage. Maybe that's why he doesn't want to talk about his real ticket into that world, because it wasn't his playing...

Of course, the funniest thing here is that in BBT's appearance contract the band is to be listed on all signage and posters as "Billy Bob Thornton with special guests, The Boxmasters". (I saw this on the contract riders section of the Smoking Gun.) I find it hilarious that he pulls this, "I'm just part of a band, treat me like that" act, and in all official interactions he's playing on name recognition from his acting career and demanding the association.

Wish I hadn't watched it...Billy bob just wasn't cool no matter what the good natured interviewer tried to do to get Billy bob to talk rationally, he just could not get through the fogged out mind...I mean would you ask Tom Petty that question? Went and watched Kevin Bacon's band at a local casino and yes he's a great entertainer and a good singer and has a lot of fun on a local stage with his band (who are alos pretty hot musicains) and he's like 5 times the actor Billy bob is...would have loved to see the same interview with Kevin for comparison...
Take care, Larryz

That reminds me, I remember a benefit concert WSL in Chicago was sponsoring for our troupes family's overseas, and Gary Senice and the Lt. Dan Band headlined. The did an interview with him and he sounded like one cool dude who truly believed in what he was doing, with no ego involved.

Unlike Billy Butt Thorazine who thinks he's the next John Bonham or something...
