Seattle

Dig it.

I'm headed to Seattle tomorrow. It's a work trip -- meetings on Mon 3/30 and Tues 3/31, and some work to do on Sun 3/29. However, I'll be able to have some fun Sat and Sun.

I just might run into Tater Nuts. I just might spend some time at Fish NW. I just might visit the place where the Lulls get built.

Very excited.

Peace.

Say hi to Mike and Roger for me. They probably won't be there on Sunday, but they will be there on Saturday. They're on the other side of Lake Washington, in Bellevue. Cross the floating bridge to get there....it's not far.

Too bad, you're not going one month later...I'll be there then.

When you go to Bass NW, go around the corner and take a look at Emerald City Guitars.

Have fun!

Damn, wish I wasn't so jammed up this weekend. I'd drive over the mountain to say hi. Half a block from Bass NW towards Pioneer square is a decent steak sandwich shop ran buy two guys from north Philly. You'll know you're close when the pan-handlers start to get thick.

EC Gutiars has some outrageous stuff in there.

I'm here. At my hotel. I foresee sushi and a nap in my immediate future.

Then there may or may not be plans in place with Tater Nuts. If such plans were in place, I would suspect pictorial incrimination would be a distinct possibility.

That is all.

Peace.

Uh oh.

We arrived at Mike Lull's shop and were given the keys to the castle. The action was so obscenely low on that blue P5 that it practically played itself. Sadly Mike had no completed T-Birds around - though we did get to see Evan Sheeley's (BassNW owner) in the assembly stages.

The good Doctor rippin' it up on a M5V. That bass + Aguilar amp/cab sounded delicious. A crowd favorite.

After abusing Mike's stuff and getting William a tour of the workshop we headed to my place. Here we find a happy kid checking out some fishes.

The mighty 2x4 bass with its obscene neck dive and fabulous fretless P tone.

We started the rest of the evening's madness by using the new option on the Johnson P.

Things degraded rapidly from there. We had some dinner and then hit many local music venues. I believe the most entertaining part of the bar hopping was the "one man band" guy a The Merchant. Wow. He was... something. I'll leave it at that.

So don't tell me the Big Tater avoided incrimination by taking all the pictures! Crafty, T-N, crafty...

BY the way, your P bass with the bottle opener is from the same manufacturer as the Galveston I'm still trying to make into a fretless. Right now, I have an Eden left-handed neck on the body, and I might leave it like that, but I haven't given up on trying to get a decent coat of polyurethane on the board. Getting closer, I'll have pictures soon...

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

Not to derail things, but have you tried putting the other strap button on the 2x4 on the back of the headstock?

Yep. It fell off your shoulder constantly at that position. I thought about doing something like the Chapman Stick strap but it's been non-existent on my priority list.

Great time was had. Nice to hit The Central -- even though the band there was gawdawful, it was cool to hit the historic venue.

The Metal Boys were loud'n'proud at the Shark Club. I very much enjoyed them tearin' it up Platinum Spandex stylee.

Yes, the one-man rocker was...um...something.

Tater's Alembics are delicious. The Johnson P Bass actually sounds fantastic with all the electronics replacements in it. And that bottle opener works like a friggin dream. The 2x4 sounds surprising good, although the neck is, uh, a little chunky. Plan B for balance on that bad boy is to hang a sack of ball bearings off the bridge end of it.

Good times. Tater is excellent company, and seems to know pretty much everyone in the greater Seattle area.

Peace.

So, yes, if Mike Lull had insisted that I bring one bass back to the east coast, I would've taken that red beauty. And, yes, it played fast -- as red basses are wont to do.

Admission of guilt:

I also played the red Lull telecaster you see hanging on the wall behind me. It's a killer g****r. I'm a total hack on the gitbox, but even I got the wonderful tele goodness to flow.

Peace.

It's been terrific.

I just came back to my hotel room after doing an 11-mile run that included most of the perimeter of Lake Union and part of the perimeter of Green Lake. I also saw just a bit of the UW campus and passed by the Seattle AFM office! It was spectacular running weather -- sunny and about 50 degrees.

Earlier today I visited the Seattle Art Museum, which is great, walked through the Pike Place market, which was fun, and took in the sights and sounds of the Experience Music Project, which was cool.

This is a pretty nice city, and I'm lucky to have had such gorgeous weather today to enjoy it.

Peace.
