Forum Hang in Richmond, VA - Sunday, Sept 21st w/Kanker!

Hey folks,

I wanted to spin up a separate thread as the original started out speculative and found a target date for Mid-Atlantic forum people to get together. That date is Sunday, Sept 21st, a mere 11 days from now.

Here's the original thread

Basically, kanker will be performing with his blues band at a local pub called Capital Ale House. Stevie B has made an offer for pre-game hang at his place. We have not finalized any details or figured out who is coming, but sounds like at a minimum, we have the following people interested:

- kanker

- stevie b

- ProfD

- NoahZark

- Gismo Recording

- Griffinator

- eric

And I may have missed a few. My conundrum is having a 20 year HS reunion the night before and accountability for kegs and cleanup could have me in the hurt locker on Sunday :D But I'm planning to at least catch the kanker show and hopefully more. I may take the day off on Monday to recuperate.

Let's use this thread to firm up the details and recruit additional folks to join.

MAKCFH 2008.2!!!

Who's in? Can you make it an afternoon & evening thing?

Regards,

Eric

I'm still interested in rolling down for MAKCFH 2008.2 to see the old contingent again and haze the newbies.:cool:

Griff, consider renting or borrowing a car if you don't have a new one! Maybe we could pass around a collection plate to help subsidize! :D Sorry to hear you're off the grid with no car. :(

I need to quote a post of mine from the original thread just to make things clear

OK, the gig appears to be an opening slot of an unknown duration for Ana Popovic. $15 in advance to get in. It ain't gonna hurt my feelings if y'all decide to go a different route for the hang, but I still hope to have a chance to get together with anyone who might be in the area. I hope to have more details in the next week or so.

I want to meet and hang, but I work at a church, and Sundays are killer...work until 1, and then 4 to 8. I could possibly make the gig...or if the hang is later in the evening i could swing by...I just need some solid times to work with.

I'm very much hoping to make it. I need to understand timing, though, since I've got an 8:00 am meeting on Monday morning, and, with the two-hour drive back to Washington, I'd probably need to be on the road by 11 or so to make sure that I don't wreck myself for the week.

Kevin: What time is your show?

P.S. Where's the rest of the Mid-Atlantic contingent? Jimmy? Tom? Marky? The drunk that snuck his way into our picture outside Legends at the last MAKCFH???

Sounds like a plan could be comming together.

I propose a pre-Kanker game plan to hang at my place around 3:00 or 4:00 in the afternoon, and leave for the Kanker/Seth show around 7:30

Eric should be over the Hang-Over and ready to "Hang" by then.

Hey Eric,--- Bring that extra keg and Kanker prior to the gig and we should all be ready!

My place is easy access of I-295 East of Richmond, (Bottoms Bridge I-64 exit #205

I'll grill something at the house, have a few keys setup for spontaneous combustion (Rhodes, Kurz PC2X, Roland VR760)

HANG, Play, Whatever,

Post and if interested & PM me for directions.

This would cost me a few hundred bucks and 28 hours round trip on a bus. It'd be a hump after my gig Saturday night.

If I do show up, Kevin, you're going to have to do my Tuesday night gig for eighty bucks and a sandwich at least once. :)

Imma hafta to pass on this one...I have a gig in NYC on the 20th and a second in Philly on the 21st. Third time's a charm???

Yamaha (Motif XS7, Motif 6, TX81Z), Korg (R3, Triton-R), Roland (XP-30, D-50, Juno 6, P-330). Novation A Station, Arturia Analog Experience Factory 32

I got a car, but trust me, my daily beater ain't gonna make no trip to Richmond - your collection plate will be to gather up money for me to catch a bus back home if I try! :freak:

I'll try to find out what the schedule is ASAP. I honestly have no idea what the scene is right now. We're playing in Nashville the day before, but the gig is in the afternoon - huge music conference in Nashville that weekend with lots of showcases and such. I'm not sure what the other fellas are into, but I'm hoping we'll make the haul all the way to Richmond after the gig (which considering I'm flying into Nashville Saturday morning will make for a LONG day) :freak:

Eric - wear your loudest shirt man, I'm throwing down the gauntlet ;)

Well, if the insurance company cuts me the check for my wife crashing up her car, and we can get another one in time, I'll be there for sure!

That's a big series of ifs, though... :(

Fingers crossed man

Another option would be to just grab some dinner as a group prior to Kanker's gig

We could meet at Legends, grab a bite on the patio, head across the bridge and see the show. It's only about on mile between Legends and the Capital Ale house.

I'm up for either a hang at my place first or meeting closer at some place like Legends.

It sounds like Kevin will be pushed for time and closer may be better.

Kanker, Let me know your schedule and I'd be glad to shuttle you between Legends and Capital Ale,

Hope to see the contingent again soon!

It looks like we will probably be playing around 7. That's a guess. I should have more info in the next day or so, but it looks like doors are at about 6, so 7 sounds like a probable start time. Anyway, it doesn't look like we'd be going too late into the evening.

Kevin, keep us posted. Still wondering if our NC contingent is interested (ITGITC, Jimmy?)...at a minimum, I think the Legend's hang + Kanker gig would be a winner. I suspect I'll be back on the chain gang by mid-afternoon. Being the master of ceremonies for the previous evening's keg party, I may be traveling with some brew...depends on how much my class of '88 folks will drink. We might be able to pull off the earlier hang at stevie b's, but let's just keep this thread alive to touch base on what people want to do. In particular, our northern folk (ProfD, Noah) will be road-trippin' and I want to ensure they have a fun time that is worth their travel.

Any way it happens, I think it will be good. I've already penciled 09/22 as a day off!

Gents:

Early warning: I'm sorry to say, but I may be a no-show next Sunday. I forgot that I'd been planning an all-day motorcycle ride with a buddy of mine for that Saturday, and if I disappear from the family on Saturday, I'll get shot (or worse) if I try to disappear again on Sunday. All that said, my bike has running like crap lately, and I'm not sure I want to trust it to a full-day run down Skyline Drive. Thus, if the bike trip gets cancelled (a definite possibility), I'll try to get back in for Sunday in Richmond.

I'll keep you posted.

Kevin: Are tickets available at the door to your show?

P.S. If I do make it down, I like the idea of meeting at Legends in late afternoon for a couple of Brown Ales and then heading over to Kevin's show by 7:00. :thu:

There should be tickets at the door, at least from what little advertising I've seen.

Hey Eric - I think we might actually be in Richmond for a couple of days. If you're taking Monday off, lunch is on me if you're up for it ;)

The Capital Ale web site has the gig with Seth Walker and Anna Popovic beginning at 6:00.

Kanker, do you know the order?

Noah, hope you can make it. Skyline drive will not be in full colors yet.

Looks like the Legends "pre game hang has more interest at the current moment. A couple Brown Ales on the deck would be nice.

See some of you in 7 days.

Hello NC gang, Any travel plans???

OK, so it looks like 6 might actually be our alleged start time. I wish I could get some 100% firm stuff on this. Does anyone in the Richmond area know anyone at the River City Blues Society (who is behind the show) they could ask, or perhaps could make a call to snoop a little?
