Funny illustration of the "duality" factor by using the , uh, body-double...but maybe he should've saved the idea for a song vid (or has somebody already done a video duet with themselves?).

I gotta say my fave part was just before the 3 minute mark when he set off to demo the effect's sound but then got carried away & played for 2+ minutes (featuring some fine GuitarGod faces)...just like a kid in a music store!

OMG - that is actually really good - the "wanker" comment at 4:48 just had me seriously LOL. :D:thu:

And then the "A**hole" comments, oh man this is killing me. ROFL now.

Cool playing, very Vai-able! Thanks for the link!

Yeah, in the clip, that pedal does sound pretty good.

It apparently suits his pickups and amp quite well, and probably sounds pretty good all-around.

There's some really nice playing in that, too; with a nice melodic musicality and lots of personality. I particularly like the two individual solos demonstrating the two sides/channels of the pedal, prior to the dual-rhythm/dual-lead tradin'-eights section (which has some cool parts as well, I just liked the first two better overall).

I have to think, though, that you can get similar enough sounds all from a good tube-amp or two, without pedals.

As much of a bad rep as they've gotten, I sometimes miss my old high-gain "red-knob" Fender "The Twin" Twin Reverb amp. You could dial-in a lot of those types of sounds on it without any pedals at all, and I'm sure that a lot of other high-gain tube-amps out there will do much the same.

A lot of overdrive and distortion pedals sound really impressive on pre-recorded clips that are offered up on the 'net, but won't seem as satisfying as you might've expected when plugged-in and played through, largely due to the response to your 'touch' and a glassiness or brittleness around the edges; or they require too different a set of control-settings on your amp and other gear to fit in with everything else you already have and want to do and use.

Still, I'd probably try one of these Jemini pedals out for myself, given the opportunity. I'd try to be open-minded about it. I must admit to being a bit prejudiced and predisposed to wanting tubes in everything! :D

Nice sounding pedal...... I noticed a touch of octaver in there way back in the mix or was I wrong? I left the room right before he started playing and when I came back in I thought I heard that. Anyway, the amps are great too..he sure covers a lot of sounds.

I am not a Vai fan per se, I have 2 albums of his. I really respect him though, he has done very nicely and stays in good shape etc and he realy can play the hell out of a guitar and get some nice emotions going.I saw him with Zappa and he was phenomenal live. He has crazy long fingers.

Hopefully this does not turn into a slamfest as with the Yngwie thread.

It may have been the way the delays were. I'm not sure.

Y'mean an octave up, or an octave down? What're you hearing there, Mister Lister?

If an octave up, I think it's just harmonic-overtones that may or may not be helped along by acoustic feedback from playing aloud in fairly close proximity to the speaker-cabs. (I'm thinking these parts were played "live", while the respective Vai was there in front of the camera, and not 'guit-synced' over pre-recorded tracks, it looks like he's actually playing what you're hearing while you watch, and the cabs are already all mic'ed-up there.)

If an octave down, I think it's just a preponderance of fat, full, low-end from both the pedal and the amp, and that seven-string that he's playing on the left-side of the screen (our left, the viewer's left). He may have thrown in a little octave fingering, as well, but I'm not certain without viewing it all again and actuatng some strict, centrific 'n' close scrutinizering.

Well, at the heart or black souless center of that, depending on your outlook and insight, would be the personae typically put forth by Mssrs Malmsteen and Vai: the former seems to be almost invariably negative and intolerably intolerable, while the latter tends towards the positive and opines open-mindedly. These would appear to foster reflectively similar reactions in the general public. That, and they make innanet pundits talk, ehrr, type too much...

In short, I don't think it will.

I've never owned any Vai albums, but have two of the G3 dvd's with him in it, but I do like his playing, his music, his creativity, his expressiveness (even if the faces are a bit funny), and he does always seem to have a good sense of humor and enjoys what he does.

That aside, that pedal does sound nice, even via youtube through my crappy computer speakers. And if given the opportunity, I'd give one a test drive through my rig to see how it sounded. The $200 price tag is a bit steep.

Hmmn, maybe think of it as two $100 pedals... ;)

It's kinda funny, someone called "the tragic rich" commenting about steep pricing... :D

...and, it's your 666th post... ! :eek::freak::whistle::thu::D

I seriously doubt that, since Vai comes across as a funny, self deprecating guy. Likeable. Not a Prima Donna at all.

I really think that pedal sounds pretty organic. I mean Steve Vai has endless tone in his hands so he could make anything sound great, but it still sounds like it maintains integrity.

As for the Yngwie thread, I am not sure why it got shut down. I thought it was a friendly debate, nobody got abusive in language to my knowledge.

Vai is a poser and a wanker. Just kidding! :D Dude's got tone to spare, no doubt. Great player, obviously.

Saw this vid a couple months ago, funny stuff. It's also funny to me that both Vai and Satch have "signature" distortion pedals after having "signature" amps, though. I've read Vai used the Keeley DS-1 ON TOP of the Legacy's lead channel, I'm guessing this will take its place.

Yeah I got that Carvin amp and yes it has Vai's sound somewhere in there. I've seen his live settings and yup his OD channel is like on 7 both preamp gain and volume, which is ear-shattering. It's kind of a dark amp, though... kinda noisy on some settings (I guess al amps are) and fx loop is kindy moody, too selective maybe? I kinda suspect the Bogner would be more open-sounding. I think he still uses the Bogner every once in a while, you can see it at the top of both Carvins. Apparently the Ecstasy is a very versatile amp. I'd love to try one. However I'm pretty sure he and MAcalpine used Legacy's at the G3 show I saw in Chicago years ago. Some dude from another forum kinda got a little tour of the rigs bacsktage by the tech (not the official one) and according to him and his pics it was all Legacy, I don't think he was even using the Fender he used as a monitor or something like that.

Not sure why that other thread got locked either but oh well...

I'm glad some people can make a living out of simply being technically proficient on their instrument.

That was pretty cool. Vai is a really funny guy.

I think that one reason a lot of people can't stand Ywingie is that he takes himself so seriously. Vai has never been as controversial a figure.

Oh, c'mon now, my Brother Terrell (and my Other Brother Terrell), you know you're handy with a spray-can 'n' a little modifitweaktionage... :D

Anybody tried that new Satchurator Joe Satriani pedal from Vox? I can see a lot of pedalboards sportin' both of these...

Vai is serious about making music but wonderfully silly about it as well. The serious side comes out in his preparation and study of theory, technique and recording concepts but the music runs the gamut from silly to sublime to conscious introspection. But in performance (and a video like this applies as much as being onstage) he's a laid back clown. :thu:

Remember back in the 80's where the Yamaha endorsers would put black tape over the "Roland" logo on their D-50's, and the Roland endorsers put tape over the "Yamaha" logo on their DX-7's?
