CajunBlues Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 I am thinking of buying one or the other.. Any opinions on these two models ?? I have never had the oppurtunity to play either one... Jock Itch is a SERIOUS MATTER. Sincerely, Freddie Krugar -- Edward Scissorshands -- Captain Hook
Bluesape Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Heritage hands down. Great guitars built by former Gibson employees. Roy Clark has a vid or 3 out playing one. How far apart are these 2 on price? Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!
Bluesape Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 The music may not grab ya but the playin' should! Great tone and build quality.... Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!
CajunBlues Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 About $300 difference in price.. Jock Itch is a SERIOUS MATTER. Sincerely, Freddie Krugar -- Edward Scissorshands -- Captain Hook
Mortal Engines Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Just my 2 cents here...I am sure that Epiphone makes fine guitars...good for the price especially. But you know, when it came time to buy the Epi Les Paul or the Gibson Les Paul....I just had to spend the extra several hundred dollars. I just looked at it as an investment that I would still be happy to play with in 20 years as opposed probably playing with the Epi for like, 2 or 3 years and realizing something was missing. Epi's are the entry level Gibsons IMO. You get one as maybe your first or second guitar and later, move on to the real thing. I know the Beatles sometimes played Epi's but that was like, 40 years ago.
CajunBlues Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 I just want to make sure you realize Epiphone has a premium line of guitars known as the elitists ... Jock Itch is a SERIOUS MATTER. Sincerely, Freddie Krugar -- Edward Scissorshands -- Captain Hook
The Geoff Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Elitist: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/geoffbyrne/P1011203.jpg Worked on it about 2 years ago - lovely. Really velvety pickups with punch. I'd like to have kept it. However, I'd still go for the Heritage. G. picker Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Heritage for quality, Epiphone for price, even the Elitist series. Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.
Caevan O'Shite Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 I assume that you are dead-set on ordering either guitar sight-unseen to be shipped to you from an internet/telephone dealer. The thing is, either of these brands have plenty enough variance from one guitar to another (amongst the same model) to warrant trying out several of each just to narrow it down to one Heritage and one Epiphone to choose from. Then there's the matter of set-up and string type and gauge being subjective and varying due to individual preference. These things can make a world of a difference in how a given guitar plays, feels, and sounds. If at all humanly possible, go to some reputable shops (preferably ones where guitar repair and modification can be done on the premises) and actually try these guitars out before you buy. If not, order from retailers who have a return policy allowing you to get a refund if you simply dislike the guitar and return it in perfect like-new condition. If possible, order from one that carries both the Heritage and Epiphone models that you're looking at (I have no idea if anyone does, or if anyone other than Heritage sells Heritage online now, but it'd be worth investigating). Consider looking for a good used one, as well- including used '90s to present Gibson 335-types... The az shops have the really cheap dots, Ibanez AS73's or the really expensive ES-335's I wish they had something of quality but not $2500+... I ordered an elitist...If you want I can let you know how it is... Jock Itch is a SERIOUS MATTER. Sincerely, Freddie Krugar -- Edward Scissorshands -- Captain Hook
Caevan O'Shite Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Sure, of course I (and lots of other folks, I'm sure) would love to read your post all about it! Hopefully, you'll be deliriously happy with it and overwhelmed with its sheer supercoolness! Oh, and I somehow managed to forget to type that the reason I recommended ordering from a retailer that carried both (if there is one) was so that you could try one, return it, try the other, and settle on the one you liked best; or at least to be able to most easily return one if you weren't 100% satisfied with it, and get the other... amyer Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 I would buy the Heritage. If I were in the market for an overseas guitar I would look at the Eastman models. VERY NICE GUITARS.
