Caevan O'Shite Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Check out this new spin on an old one: G37 & G27 Guitar Leslies (video) & G37 & G27 Guitar Leslies ('page) One good turn deserves another! Note that there are both a spinning horn-tweeter and a rotating baffle goin' 'round a woofer in these, just like the classic vintage Leslies that are most coveted and most often heard on classic recordings ("Badge", anyone? Just for one out of hundreds or thousands...). Also note that when the "Brake" is applied, the rotating horn and baffle lock into place facing forward when they come to a complete stop, instead of randomly coming to rest wherever they may as in some (all?) of the older organ/keyboard oriented models. And, instead of two speeds- fastest and slowest- to switch between (ramping up and down), these have a "Gas Pedal" for the option of continuous control and setting on any speed in-between the fast and slow limits. There are powered (built-in amp) and non-powered (needs an amp) versions. A lotta classic sounds in there... Way too cool! I really want one... !! miroslav Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 I'm down for one! How much beans do I need? I like the idea of the G27...so's you can use any amp you want....but that G37 looked like a mighty nice way to go also. miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important."
miroslav Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 OK...found some prices...a little odd that the G37 is only $100 more: G27 - $995 G37 - $1095 Would still like to get one...it just might have to wait in line. I have other amp purchases in a holding pattern! I wonder if you can bypass the on-board amp of the G37 if desired...that way you can go either with the on-board amp or you favorite guitar amp...? Have to do a little more research... Strategery Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Yep, I've been keeping up with this myself. We have to pre order them and delivery won't be til Nov. I'd love a G37 amplified version myself! Randy "Just play!"

Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing; seems to me that if you can still easily use the speakers with an external amp as an option, that the 37 would be the one to go with and very easily worth the additional hundred bucks. I'd imagine that it wouldn't be too hard to modify one so that you could do that, even if there isn't a specific provision for that built-in already, anyways. How hard could it be? Strategery Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 OK, how would you use this with your amp? Just come out of one of your amp speaker outs? Just curious. Randy "Just play!"
Caevan O'Shite Posted August 30, 2008 Author Posted August 30, 2008 OK, how would you use this with your amp? Just come out of one of your amp speaker outs? Just curious. Randy Depends on which model, and what you want to do. Used to be, you HAD to modify a Leslie and have a rigged-up deal like that if you wanted to use a Leslie, 'cause they were originally made to interface with Hammond organs and the like with weird (to guitarists) I/O jacks. But now, these new models are designed with guitar in mind; the 37 includes an on-board tube preamp and 100-watt SS power-amp, voiced for guitar. You could just plug in your guitar, or use an A/B/Y-switcher to go between your 'normal' guitar amp and rig, and the Leslie. I imagine that if you wanted to, you could find a way to bypass the on-board amp and connect the speaker and horn to the amp of your choice. I bet that the on-board tube-preamp and SS power-amp work great and would be just fine for a lot of things, though. The 27 is without the preamp or amp, and needs an external power-amp to drive its speaker and horn. You would just connect it to whatever amp you were going to use to drive it, just like any amp/cab connection. And, like an amp, you could mic the Leslie rotary cab, in either mono or stereo or whatever multi-mic set-up that you could concoct to get the sound that you want for a PA or a recording.
