Hey Color Complainer.....

Not green metallic sunburst. Satisfied? ;)

Affirmative. Robot guitar color now computes:

Well, it's a start. At least it's not as ugly as it might be. How about a little binding? For a guitar that expensive, some appointments would be nice...

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

Yes, the looks of the guitar ARE important! Not as much as tone and intonation and playability, maybe....

Maybe someone could start a business with a "color of the month" thing for guitars.... bring your favorite flaming pink Strat in, and we'll paint in purple paisley... next month we'll paint it sunglare yellow, or glorious green (for you ecofreaks, out there)....

Or just make instruments with software installed where you could change the color of the instrument as easily as you could change its TONE color.

Off the top of my head of course, but it wouldn't hurt for someone to explore these things!

Whether it would make the MUSIC sound better is another matter!

DuPont ChromaLusion paint

ChromaLusion® has taken special effect paint to a new level. This advanced, solventborne material uses special metal-oxide pigments with a five-layer flake to create a riot of colours in a single paint coat. The multi-colour rainbow changes colour dramatically according to the angle of light, the angle of view and the curve of the panel.

There ya go, Eric. :D

In 2002 or 2003 Gibson used a PPG predecessor to Dupont's ChromaLusion on a guitar built to accompany the Copperhead, a classic Chevy truck rebuilt and modified by my friend Stacey David, then host of Trucks! and now Gearz.

Stacey worked with Gibson on a guitar to match the truck, known as Copperhead. The bodies of these SG's were carved to look like snake skin which accentuates the flip-flop colors of the paint. They also released the same guitar with a blue/teal finish in addition to the copper style. (I could only find a pic of the limited edition, Custom Shop model with the Copperhead logo but they did make this guitar without the logo inlay and in both colors. I don't know why everythingsg.com doesn't list it.)

Stacey even posted the formula of PPG paints used for anyone wishing to have the same color on their ride. :thu:

....How about a little binding? ....

Gotta admit, I was thinking the same thing, probably having a lot to do with past conditioning, having gotten used to Les Pauls with binding.

I mean what could be more subjective than this?:

I Love binding on a Les Paul shape body.

I hate it on a strat shape body.

Hmmmm.....I guess it's a case of "if it's got a fairly sharp edge on it, binding is mandatory, but don't put no sharp edges on strat".

Yup, this is essentially an electronically enhanced LP Studio. I just don't see that upgrade being worth $1600.00 more than a stock one. I mean, for $2800.00, ya can get a Gibson LP Studio, a US Strat, and a HR Deville! And a decent tuner! :D
Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!

It's still a novelty, mabey in the future it will become common people are reporting alot of problems re-stringing them.
