Tony,

Someone posted clips of the new Yamaha sample (in stereo and mono, and with the XL sample for comparison) a little while back. I don't believe the new Steinway sample has been released.

It might.

I love the new Yamaha sample. It is very very playable, and is even and full bodied across the entire keybed... Beautifully put together sample... I actually happen to like it in mono more than in stereo. In mono, it sounds fuller and not arbitrarily "divided" into two different channels which is what it can sound like. But, even in stereo, it's an excellent sample -- I recommend it. I liked the old XL, but now it's not even in my Stage.

I played my Nord Stage88 with 3.12 exclusively on a recent CD as well as playing live with it since it's release. I find it very musical and having a very unique vibe when playing. Coupled with some tweaking with the three band EQ, you can make it cut or be warm and silky.

Short answer-No (IMO).....but the new yamaha definitely has a vibe to it....very playable.....but the upper register gets a little thin, and I just couldn't get it to sound right gigging, in stereo or the new mono mode.
