Can anyone say, "grasping at straws"?

What's next?

NOW FROM GIBSON: The Invisible Guitar!

Ask not what your guitar can do for you, rather ask you can do for your guitar without provoking a divorce or a visit from the police.

this guitar represents ingenuity? could someone explain to me why punching a bunch of holes into an otherwise cool looking guitar displays 'imaginative spirit'?

I actually think its pretty cool looking, but, having said that, won't ever own one. If I would spend that kind of money on a guitar, it would be a Goldtop, no questions asked.

Avoid playing the amplifier at a volume setting high enough to produce a distorted sound through the speaker-Fender Guitar Course-1966

You know... I've always said the V could use a bunch of holes in it! Cause, it's not kooky enough or totally impractical enough as is...

It's about time someone put it on a diet!

YA! While they're at it they should chop off all those annoying pointy parts too!

Well, it's "Holy" something, but "V" isn't the first word that comes to mind...

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

I'd love these if:

You didn't have to buy special strings.

They sustained for more than a microsecond

The trems didn't fall apart

The neck didn't feel like a pedal steel with frets

You could play them sitting down

They sounded better than dog doo

:)

I think Gibson could have come up with much better marketing for this (ugly) guitar. The Holy V? How about billing it the world's first externally chambered V!

I suppose someone could play it in the praise and worship band at their church! (I hope everyone saw through my pathetic attempt to be funny.)

As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!

Sheesh! As it is my Flying V (Nov. 2006 model) is so neck heavy its a problem. While tuning, I need to use a finger to hold the headstock up while I select the peg to turn.

Its not a problem while playing at all (I really love this guitar), but I have thought of adding some weight to the very tips of the vees (at the right end as held while playing) to make it a little more balanced.

But to hog out 2 or 3 pounds of wood from the body?!?

Plus, a big gouge out of the channel between the nut & the bridge?!? I mean, think about it: the only thing holding the bridge-holding section to the neck-holding section is a pair of channels apparently 1¾" thick front to rear, and 1" wide side to side, one on each side. What would happen if you pushed firmly on the back of the neck to make the note sag (like a vibrato bridge)? Would you break the guitar in half?

(Pretty wood though...)

Don't candy-coat it, bro', tell us how you feel about 'em! :thu:

Ya say that like it's a bad thing!

(Sin, on a Sunday, that is.)

Or, do you think that's the day of the week this thing was conceived on?

Yeah- That was little too Rodney Dangerfield wasn't it?

Yup, I'd rather see a pickup than a hole below the neck...

That was one of my first thoughts, Reif.

BTW, has anyone seen this month's Gibson Guitar of the Month?

I can't decide if it's really cool looking or really ugly.

I'm leaning more towards really ugly, though. But the lightning bolt pickguard is pretty cool looking.

Nah, the original is way nicer, just like the V. Right, Beej?

Right. Then just switch the original V's body and headstock shapes out for sumthin' more along these lines and you're good to go!

But then it wouldn't be a V! Just another LP lacking the coolness factor!:deadhorse:

hmmm, I guess people forget how ugly/strange the flying v and explorer were to people when they came out. It actually turned off most people at the time! they were considered ugly and everything else..however over time they slowely caught on.

a reverse v or reverse explorer or holy v might be considered strange/ugly but in the future might be considered a prized find.

I mean how many different LP's strats can there be? they have to try something new different...
