EddiePlaysBass Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I know some of you have done this sort of thing before so ... I'm not 100% happy with my Yamaha TRBII 6-string, the main reason being the sixth string I tried it, and have found that it is not for me. I use the low B often but never go up to the high C (I hardly ever make it to the G-string - no pun intended). So I'm thinking of putting it up for trade but I have no clue as to the actual value of the bass. I know that these models cost a bit when they came out (based on some catalogs and in-store models I've seen) but I'm guessing that the fact that this is a 6'er probably reduces the tradability ... Ideally I'd like to trade it in for a 5-string version of the same model, or a good 5-string bass. But I have no idea what would be a reasonable trade for a bass like the TRBII. I know you guys will say "whatever you are glad with, will be reasonable". But I'm not looking for buddhist replies *LOL* Any input is welcome "I'm a work in progress." Luke73 Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I would say if it's in excellent condition, around 2/3 of the street price for a new one would be fairly close to the mark. http://www.myspace.com/twoshortrocks

EddiePlaysBass Posted August 21, 2008 Author Posted August 21, 2008 Interesting, we do have access to eBay at work  Geoff, thanks for the links ! Will watch them a bit to see what gives. Ideally I'd love to trade her in for a nice Fender, but the prices for an MIA Fender here are between 1,100 and 1,700 so I doubt I'd get that kind of deal ... There's a dent on the body, showing the bare wood. Probably reduces it a little more But if I'm clear and honest about that upfront, at least the swapper won't have grounds for complaints We'll see ... "I'm a work in progress." DavidMPires Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Have you had a look at the Spector rebop, a necktrough is far more expensive but I reckon you could get a nice deal with a rebop. Their neck is very confortable and I'm pretty sure you will like the tone dave. www.myspace.com/davidbassportugal "And then the magical unicorn will come prancing down the rainbow and we'll all join hands for a rousing chorus of Kumbaya." - by davio
Paul K Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Ahh....Trader Fish I used talkbass.com to trade my Warmoth fiver (old girl, and over 12 lbs.) for a fretless Cort Curbow that I like much better. I don't know how many talkbass folks are on that side of the pond, but my experience with the trade was all positive. THe guy I traded with had a bunch of positive feedback, smooth transaction. 'Course, you'd have to be careful with any of these trade things. But if anybody asks, I'd vouch for you. And 'course, if you don't use the G string either, just take a four and string it BEAD.... Peace Paul K Things are just the way they are, and they're only going to get worse.
EddiePlaysBass Posted August 21, 2008 Author Posted August 21, 2008 Haha thanks Paul, but I actually do use the G-string, just not often. I have found that I never use the C-string ... I found an ad from a guy selling an upright, sent out a feeler to see if he wanted to trade it for my bass *LOL* I know nothing about uprights, and the chances of him replying at all are slim. We'll see, I'm gonna really think this one through and in the end I may try to strike a deal at a music store where I trade in this bass and cough up some cash for a new one. Eric VB Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I use the low B often but never go up to the high C (I hardly ever make it to the G-string - no pun intended).I'm the opposite with my 8-string. I'll play the high C and F strings but I don't really use the low F#. (Not just because my rig can't handle the low frequencies, either.) I'd probably be just as happy with a 7. (Speaking of 7s, where's G7TZ these days?) But I'll probably keep the 8. (How many 7s can you get for under $400?) The higher-pitched strings are more useful for soloing, solo bass, covering guitar/piano parts, chording, etc. Not for playing bass lines note-for-note in a rock band. If the only thing you don't like about the bass is the fact that you don't use all the strings I'd say keep it. Who knows? Maybe some day you'll need it!

Maybe some day you'll need it! Yeah my dad said the same thing ... I'm a slacker but maybe some day I'll get my act together and actually become a bit proficient on our beloved instrument, and find use for the high C ... And I really do love this bass ... jlrush Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 David, Are you interested in a TRB5? I own one and I've sorta been yearning for a TRB6. Wonder what it costs to ship a bass overseas. Maybe we could trade. :) Visit my band's new web site. www.themojoroots.com

moot Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 (I hardly ever make it to the G-string - Gosh. Sorry about that. I'm the opposite with my 8-string.
