octa Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 so i'm an electro 61 user in need of a synth. i've wanted a Nord lead 2x for a little while now. however, while researching i find the nord stage to be a very nice all-in-one package with more keys. the only disadvantages might be that it costs an arm & a leg, & that the synth might not be flexible enough. there isn't a dealer here or i'd go sit down with one for awhile. anyone have any thoughts about the nord lead 2x synth vs. the stage synth? i'm no synth buff but would like to be able to roughly create any weird sound that comes to mind.
Moonglow Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I have a Nord Stage and a Nord Lead 2X-Rack. The NL2X is definitely a more sophisticated VA. However, the NS has a nice VA section and a small digital section as well as some other waveforms, and the recent updates are very cool. I feel the synth section in the NS is underrated, and you can develop some fat sounds combining the synth section from both panels. I mostly use the NS synth section for analog-type sounds from the 1980s (e.g., Journey, Loverboy, Night Ranger) and other "retro" stuff, and for this purpose it meets my needs very well. Sort of reminds me of the type of patches I would get out of my Juno-106. But if you need something beyond this I would recommend the NL2X. Yoozer Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 i'm no synth buff but would like to be able to roughly create any weird sound that comes to mind. The Nord is by far one of the plainest synths in that regard. Yes, it's got morphing, but for weirdness, a Blofeld w/ controller would probably do the job better. More modulation options, too.
