Geoff Grace Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Which sounds better -- the left hand clapping or the right hand clapping? Best, Geoff My Blue Someday appears on Apple Music | Spotify | YouTube | Amazon
gliderproarc Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I voted right, but by rights it should have been "dominate hand". My theory is, when you clap, you don't use each hand equally, you tend to use your more dominate hand to smack your other hand which remains relatively still. Trying to do this with your week hand smacking your dominate hand just isn't going to produce the same sonorous result. ...yeah GIGO
King Julien Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 For some reason I've always preferred the left, but not sure which sounds better I like to move it, move it (except The Wurly which can be a bit temperamental and the 122 for obvious reasons)

After all, with a drum, it's not the stick but the head that the sound resonates from... Ooooh, deep.
Garrafon Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I think it has to do with the contours of EACH hand as they smack one another and the extent to which you trap air in between the hands.
keysplease Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I've never had the clap, right or left-handed.
Sven Golly Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I think it has to do with the contours of EACH hand as they smack one another and the extent to which you trap air in between the hands. Methinks you might be taking this a little to seriously...

Dave Horne Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 So one hand is dominant and the other is sub dominant? No guitarists were harmed during the making of this message. In general, harmonic complexity is inversely proportional to the ratio between chording and non-chording instruments.
BluesKeys Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I like the sound of my hand on my girlfriends arse. But that is not for public consumption. either hand creates the same results. Garrafon Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Excerpt from: http://www.wikihow.com/Clap-Your-Hands "There are as many ways to clap, as there are as many reasons to clap. There is no wrong way to clap, and it usually occurs in a very natural and unplanned way. . . . Warnings Although clapping is a sign of happiness or in excitement, you don't clap for yourself when being praised or awarded. It shows rudeness and disrespect, like saying "I know I'm great, praise me." Instead of clapping, the proper response to public praise (in western cultures) is a slight, modest bow or a raised hand acknowledging others applauds." So, that only begs the question...when you bow or raise a hand, which hand should you use??

Byrdman Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 So one hand is dominant and the other is sub dominant? Can't clap right now - I'm busy eating a tritone sub. Cheese pickles and pastrami on a neapolitan roll.
