b3keys Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Saw Neil Diamond in concert last evening. My sister and I took my mother as part of her birthday present. The crowd of Diamond Heads (fans) was older, but some of those blue hair broads can sure whoop it up! The concert was great! Fantastic band - two keyboardists, including Yamaha digital piano, Korg Triton, laptop, Hammond XK series (sounded awesome) and some other boards that I couldn't see what they were. The show was a big "Vegas" at times, but he played for 2 hours, 20 minutes without stopping. It was hit after hit after hit. I had a great time.
B3Nut Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Say what you will about Mr. Diamond...the fact remains...the man can freaking pen a tune. He's a towering giant among songwriters for a reason. I love his early stuff...esp. with Blaine/Osborne/Knechtel...fantastic stuff. I grew up with that music, my dad had quite a few of his records. "Holly Holy" and "Soolaimon" are pure genius, from both a writing and arrangement perspective. --- Todd A. kanker. Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Neil Diamond sat through about 2 hours and 20 minutes of me playing about 3 weeks ago here in Indy A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable.
Jode Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 And the guy tours like a fiend. He sold out the Rose Garden here in Portland less than a year ago (I'm pretty sure), and he's back again in September. TIckets are going fast. "I had to have something, and it wasn't there. I couldn't go down the street and buy it, so I built it." Les Paul
stepay Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 ...and he's back again in September. September Morn? Steve (Stevie Ray) "Do the chickens have large talons?"

NoahZark Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 No question Brother Neil can still rock it out. I've seen a handful of these guys in what can only be described as the "twilights" of their careers (e.g., Neil Diamond, B.B. King, John Denver, Jimmy Buffett, Judas Priest), and the thing you realize is that guys that have been doing it for that long, regardless of the type of music, are simply incredible entertainers. They've just mastered the art of creating audience enjoyment. Noah
Dave Horne Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I always liked him and when I was younger the trio I worked with would often do his songs. His best talent - he can take a very simple tune, a very mediocre tune, and make it sound great. No guitarists were harmed during the making of this message. In general, harmonic complexity is inversely proportional to the ratio between chording and non-chording instruments.
Mike Davis Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 His best talent - he can take a very simple tune, a very mediocre tune, and make it sound great. Which is a pretty good talent to have, I'd say!
