popcritic Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Like just about everybody else in the country, I've been watching the Olympics. Night before last, NBC broadcast the finals of the women's floor exercise competition. I was surprised and delighted when Shawn Johnson began her routine with music that my daughter Kaki King contributed to the soundtrack of the movie "August Rush". The first half of her routine featured excerpts from an original composition for solo acoustic guitar by Kaki titled "Bari Improv" and her cover of a Michael Hedges tune titled "Ritual Dance". The rest of the routine was accompanied by the movie's main symphonic title composed by Mark Mancina. Shawn took the silver medal for her performance, but for obvious reasons, I was pulling for her to get the gold. She did go on to take gold for the balance beam last night. I cannot tell you how proud we are that Kaki's music was used in the finals of an Olympic competition. Best regards to all-- Dave King
