moot Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 or How I Spent My Weekend. I didn't attend Friday but I understand the jam went till about 2 a.m. Saturday started around 4 with a great regae band that made the trip from L.A. These kids were very good. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b203/Mattulator/regae.jpg Pueblo Rooftop is a local band who does a Salsa/Latin kinda thing and are really great musicians. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b203/Mattulator/proof.jpg Substrate is a local band also. They do an original mixture of Dead type stuff and blues. The singer Mel sounds alot like Edie Brickell http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b203/Mattulator/substrate.jpg I didn't catch this bands name but they were great. The bassist had an unusual style - kindof diddled with his index finger. Odd. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b203/Mattulator/joe.jpg Then there was Motorgrader, a speed metal band. Very talented but not my cup of tea. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b203/Mattulator/motorgrader.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b203/Mattulator/mgrader.jpg And last but not least - Quantum Soup. We Killed! http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b203/Mattulator/qs-2.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b203/Mattulator/lisa.jpg We played an hour of originals (I broke my A string during the 3rd song) and for an encore we played a Rush medly of Spirt of Radio, a couple minutes of Jacobs Ladder and then Limelight. The sound was awesome and so was the crowd. The Shirt missed a good time!! "He is to music what Stevie Wonder is to photography." getz76 I have nothing nice to say so . . .
Tom Capasso Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Quite a diverse group of bands. Glad to hear everything almost went well (no A string...). I see the unknown-name band had their own bass amp, but what about everyone else? Tom www.stoneflyrocks.com Acoustic Color Be practical as well as generous in your ideals. moot Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 I tell ya Tom, I had that string changed and tuned in about 45 seconds. I used to break a lot of strings and have become very quick. I hadn't broken one in months up to that point - figures. There was a house rig for bass but I didn't see anyone using it. It was a GK head and 410 cab - you can see it behind my rig. The sound guy miked the rim of my 15 and I was surprised at how much growl I could hear in the side fills. Neat trick. TimR Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Thanks Matt. Playing at a gathering like that is one of the things I like doing best. I played one on Sunday. No Pics though sorry. This thread has alerted me to your Myspace page, which I've somehow missed up till now. The first tune to come up was TBFM, awesome, thanks. Sanvean Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Has anyone ever told you, you look very similar to Max Von Sydow? http://www.paulgenesse.com/images/MaxVonSydow3.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b203/Mattulator/lisa.jpg Warwick Corvette 4 Proline Tune Casiopea TWX 6 string
moot Posted August 20, 2008 Author Posted August 20, 2008 I wonder if Max plays bass? "He is to music what Stevie Wonder is to photography." getz76 I have nothing nice to say so . . .
b5pilot Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 Looks like a good time! You broke an A? Damn, that's some serious thumpin'! Lydian mode? The only mode I know has the words "pie ala" in front of it. http://www.myspace.com/theeldoradosband
