theTragicRich Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 To you warwick players, I hate you! Met up with the band at Guitar Center as they needed to replace some gear, but they didn't have it in stock, so we headed out to a couple other stores and ended up finally at a SamAsh... They had a nice selection of Warwicks on the wall. I've been eyeing a couple of 'wicks, mainly the Thumb NT (6-str fretless) as my next bass (dream bass). But have yet to see any local stores carry the NT models. But Sam Ash had a Thumb Bolt-on 4, very nice feel, solid, and played great. Even off the wall, the thing had great action and was very easy to play. Also tried a 4-str fretless Corvette and again the thing felt and played great in my hands. The next one I saw on the wall was one of the Ibanez Gary Willis models, the cheaper model with the black finish. That was when I had to walk away... not only to rescue myself from walking out with a new fish (and being thrown out of the house) but I had to rescue our drummer from walking out with a few cymbals. But everytime I put my hands on a Warwick, those GAS pains just get worse. Unfortunately (fortunate for me though), not one Fender at GC or Samash was a fretless. I could use one of those as well... Big Red 67 Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I bought a Vette five or six years ago. It had been in the shop for six years so it was a great deal too. Great bass, really fat neck. Big Red's Ride Blog

Absolutely join the club! Deals are out there. I found a used Thumb 5 bolt-on at our local GC for $700 and there are some good deals on Ebay. Those Corvettes are great basses. I think they are a little more versatile sound-wise than Thumbs and less expensive so don't rule out those 'vettes. I tried a fretless 'vette today and all I can say is - Oooh yeah! Lydian mode? The only mode I know has the words "pie ala" in front of it. http://www.myspace.com/theeldoradosband
theTragicRich Posted August 16, 2008 Author Posted August 16, 2008 Yea, I've been eyeing ebay for Thumb NT's and that seems to be the best place to snag one as they generally go for 50% of the cost of a new one. But even at half price, those Thumb NT's are expensive. I want to say the fretless 'vette I played was used as it was a tad cheaper than what I normally see new ones go for. I think it was tagged at $999. I want to say GC had a 'vette for about $1239 or 1299, something like that. I know I'll be joining the club, just not sure when [Carvin] XB76WF - All Walnut 6-string fretless [schecter] Stiletto Studio 5 Fretless | Stiletto Elite 5 [Ampeg] SVT3-Pro | SVT-410HLF
