I paid $1600.00 for the Fender FSR new Alembic SC Standard slim neck taper Warrior Signature fretless G&L L2000 Spalt top w/Maple fretboard Ibanez SR500 Genz-Benz Neo-Pak 3.5 Two Genz-Benz Neox 1x12T cabs Genz-Benz XB2 4x10 cab
fingertalkin Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 What do you want the bass for? Do you want to make it an investment or do want that other bass to play? I personally don't buy instruments for investment reasons. The only bass that is near and dear to my heart is my Fender Aerodyne Jazz. It is the first "real" bass that I bought. I like it. How do you sign a computer screen?
Ironstorm Posted August 16, 2008 Author Posted August 16, 2008 I want the Duesenberg because for one it is short scale and very high end for a semi hollow I had one a few years ago that was stolen and would like to replace it. Also with my Alembic,Fretless Warrior the Semi hollow would give me the full range of bass sounds for every type of music. jeremy c Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I'm not familiar with Duesenberg basses so I can't comment on whether they are worth the price, although a price of $2470 for a bass with a custom paint job doesn't seem unreasonable to me. The D bass looks pretty interesting. It's hard to say whether a 2008 Fender will become collectible whether it is a limited edition or not. It does seem like a lot of things to trade for one bass. I like those Victor Bailey basses, but I'm not buying any more basses this year. Free download of my cd!.
... Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 ...but I'm not buying any more basses this year. Are you sure?.
kenfxj Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Ironstorm - I've played that hot rod jazz in GC. My local one has 2 in fact. Very, very nice bass. I might be wrong, but I think investment-wise, you'd have to wait quite a few years to see an appreciable jump in price for a 2008 Fender. I can't see them being worth 5 figures in 2018. It seems that to hold onto a bass for 5-10 years to see it maybe double in price is an OK investment, but if you could use the money now... Push the button Frank.
picker Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 I don't like short scale basses, they sound "plunky" to me. And, it's just my opinion, but Duesenbergs look like an expensive copy of an el cheap-o to me.I don't expect the company to be around very long. I wouldn't trade what you've got for one myself. Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.
dcr Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 http://duesenbergusa.com/dsb/campbell_bass.jpg Yeah, why would you want anything like that?
b5pilot Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Oh oh, looks like it's time to change my avatar! I agree with fingertalkin keeping instruments as investment pieces isn't that practical. All in all, it's really up to you what you want to do with it. Lydian mode? The only mode I know has the words "pie ala" in front of it. http://www.myspace.com/theeldoradosband
Tom Capasso Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 First, have you tried the Duesy? My limited experience with this body style is that it's bigger than you think. If you are having physical issues, I'd be sure to try it first (or find another instrument with this style like an Epiphone Casady). I mention it because you what you've said before. The Duesy looks great, and as a long-time short-scale guy I'm OK with that. You just have to know what you're getting into. The E string will not vibrate the same as on a 34" bass, and you'll need to be careful about the strings you use. The sound will most likely be a bit thumpy, so don't expect to be playing "Roundabout" (caveat: pickups can make a difference here, so try it!). I have an opertunity to trade this bass my Fender Victor Bailey acoustic my Waterstone ME-2 and my Ashdown rig for a new Duesenberg star bass Mike Camble paint job If I read this correctly, you are giving up 3 basses and a full amp rig? That doesn't sound like a good deal to me. I don't believe that your FSR bass will appreciate that much. Of course that's just my guess. It's like any financial investment - you can't predict the future market. Manufacturers have been coming out with these limited edition instruments to drive up prices and collectors have been buying them new on speculation. I don't see that a lot of money has been made - except by the manufacturer, who is selling to a different market segment this way. Ironstorm Posted August 18, 2008 Author Posted August 18, 2008 To answer some questions 1. The Duesenberg is not a high priced cheap-o knockoff, this Bass is made with Nickel plated brass hardware, And Spruce top and Flame maple body. 2. In 2005 I had the 2004 NAMM show Star bass the first to enter the U.S.A. A friend of mine owns a small Boutique shop www.roxyguitar.com check out the site His name is Lou Muller if you call mention my name Ken Robinson and this forum. Anyway the body of this bass is about the same size as a Les Paul guitar maybe a little bigger the harware on this bass is very, very well made if you take the truss rod cover or one of the volume knobs off it must weigh a good 1/2lb or more. This bass puts Hofner stuff to shame Gibson to. I have been lucky enough to play and own some very high end basses and I can tell you my friends this Duesenberg is right up ther on the lines on my Alembic it is that well made and the sound is amazing Duff from Velvet Revolver uses one to record with, Check out there site www.duesenbergusa.com they mostly sell guitars and some very very very famous and Legendary players use them. The reason I want this bass is to replace my old 2004 star bass that was stolen from my car a year ago still pissed about that. Never leave your stuff in your car in downtown Phila. and go have a couple drinks dumb move on my part learned my lesson. As for the trade I think it is a lot of equipment to for one bass I am going to ask about a new Genz-Benz Neox 112T so I have a cab upstairs and one downstairs and will put the two cabs together for the odd gig or outside party at my house. I will get the best deal I can or I won`t deal My concern was if the Fender Jazz bass Had the potential to be worth something in the long run. I remember when I puschased my first Rickenbacker 4001 back in 1978 for $600 NEW I could have picked up a 4005 for the same price NEW and now I have seen 4005`s selling for $14,000 who new... Anyway if you get the chance to play a Duesenberg check it out this is a real sleeper bass not to many people know about they are great IMOP Alembic SC Standard slim neck taper Warrior Signature fretless G&L L2000 Spalt top w/Maple fretboard Ibanez SR500 Genz-Benz Neo-Pak 3.5 Two Genz-Benz Neox 1x12T cabs Genz-Benz XB2 4x10 cab
dcr Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Well, if you already know you love the Duesenberg, this seems easy to me.
tucsonbassplayer Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 The body style on these basses always made feel like I should be strumming them. Not for me, but to each his own! http://tucsonbassplayer.blogspot.com
