ITGITC Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 This just in from MSNBC: Beer Goggles are REAL. KLONK HERE FOR THE STORY http://mahut.sk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/beer-helping-ugly-people-c10007026.jpeg Who's thirsty? Tom PS - Happy Friday! "Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent." - Victor Hugo
Joe Muscara Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 That poster is full of $#!^. Beer has been around possibly as early as the 6th century B.C. I'm sure it's a major reason ugly people never got bred out of the species in the first place. "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! Hoo hoo!" - Daffy Duck "The good news is that once you start piano you never have to worry about getting laid again. More time to practice!" - MOI
Moonglow Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Beer is good for you! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-2dmih_c74 "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." - George Bernard Shaw
Mr. Nightime Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Mmmmmm beer. Wish I could have one. I'm fighting an upper respiratory infection, and my doctor's got me on antibiotice. Soooo - no beer for the next week (Damn It!) But there's no reason I can't do some more research for This Story "In the beginning, Adam had the blues, 'cause he was lonesome. So God helped him and created woman. Now everybody's got the blues." Willie Dixon

ITGITC Posted August 15, 2008 Author Posted August 15, 2008 Delirum, I have never seen that poster. That's a lot better than the one I found. Beer always seems to be a popular topic 'round here. 'specially on Fridays. Did you know that Mr. Kanker likes his at room temperature? yeah "Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent." - Victor Hugo

JeffLearman Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I also enjoyed the related story: Science proves that bikinis turn men into boobs Yet another intensive study to tell us what we already knew. Back to beer: not only is it quite old, beer and its precursor (I forget the term) were extremely significant in the development of civilization. You get more nutrition from the beer made from an acre of grain than you would from the grain itself, allowing a larger population to exist on a given amount of land. The alcohol and the critters that make it tend to keep nastier bugs at bay, so it's far, far safer to drink than water from the local river (which is also the local sewer). Production was centralized by powerful rulers who used both the distribution of beer and religion to control the population. Such a centralized economy and the ability to produce more food per worker than consumed by the worker allowed the development of a large ruling class or aristocracy as well as standing armies -- things that never happen in a hunter/gatherer society. As a result, people clustered together in densely populated areas, fomenting violence and breeding disease (with help from domesticated animals). From examining skeletal remains, we find that civilized people had shorter, more violent, more diseased lives than the hunter/gatherer individuals living at the same time nearby. Lives were short and brutal, ruled by harsh "gods", and wars were frequent. All this, brought to you by: BEER! Of course, civilization did eventually lead to the development of the piano, and thus was a necessary step on the road to enlightenment. This ends today's lecture. For tomorrow's class, study the chapter on the Inquisition.
Griffinator Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I have a new favorite beer. http://www.shiner.com/beers/beers-home.php?pg=black http://www.shiner.com/images/shiner_blacklager_bottle.gif Mmmmm. I love their Bock - where the hell do you get that sexy-looking thing?! A bunch of loud, obnoxious music I USED to make with friends.
Kayvon Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 My favourite beer at the moment is Innis & Gunn. It's matured in Oak barrels and tastes superb. Their blond beer is not so special though. http://www.innisandgunn.com/

I love their Bock - where the hell do you get that sexy-looking thing?! http://www.shiner.com/dist_map/availabilityMap.html BUT, it looks like the map hasn't been updated for the Black. You'll have to ask around to see if it's up your way. Around here, they sell it by the case at Costco! The black first came out a couple of years ago as one of their anniversary brews, but I guess it was popular enough they kept it around. "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible!
