Paul K
Ladies and Gentlemen Lots of people with new fish; my fishing hat's off to you. I let one get away, and I think I regret it: http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-1976-Fretless-Precision-Bass-PBass-w-Case-L-K_W0QQitemZ270170914964QQihZ017QQcategoryZ64401QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It was heart vrs. head. A supposed vintage bass, but with no serial number on the neck plate or the headstock. Pick guard is obviously aftermarket. Custom paint job probably not from the factory. But is there a funkier color anyplace on this planet? I've never seen a painted fingerboard, and I've a big soft spot for anything fretless. I had dreams about this bass; very vivid dreams that have never involved a P-bass before. But wouldn't I get more use out of the five string Synapse that I covet? And with such a colored bass, wouldn't I need to buy a whole new wardrobe? Bootsy sunglasses? Rhinestones? High healed sneakers? If the succesful bidder is on this list, I wish him well. If the succesful bidder is not on this list (bites tongue real hard....) I still wish him well. Or her. Anybody else with a unique fish that got away? Things are just the way they are, and they're only going to get worse.
vladimir
Ooooh, Shiny! None. More. Green. I've never seen that color on a bass before, I like it! One would hope the fingerboard was done with epoxy paint, otherwise the maintenance could be a nightmare. As for what to wear...You could probably play it nekkid and nobody would say a thing..... Bottomgottem
You know, that paint job grew on me very quickly. My whole trick is to keep the tune well out in front. jcadmus
Um, a custom-color '76 P-bass selling for $740? Even if that color is a refinish -- which I assume it is -- that price seems low for a "vintage" bass. I've seen stuff that looks like firewood on eBay selling for twice that. What am I missing here? MongoN1
That fish needs a shamrock sticker and then perfection. Mongo..... Paul K
Um, a custom-color '76 P-bass selling for $740? What am I missing here? A fun read? On the one hand, No serial number, no way to tell if "76" is something other than a number pulled out of the hat. (Also, the cat didn't respond to my e-mail asking for more information regarding the supposed date, which was posted plenty early.) On the other hand, it's so green and funky. I've never seen anything like it. I could have gone higher, but didn't, and now I regret it. That's it.... And: Anybody else let one get away? I can't be the only one! Things are just the way they are, and they're only going to get worse.
jcadmus
Well, in that case, I'd like to offer for sale my original '51 P-bass. It's been repainted. And I had to replace the neck. And the body. And electronics. And the hardware. Except the strap buttons. Oh wait, I replaced them too. But it occupies the same space intrinsically in the universe as the original. Bidding starts at $1 million. JBFLA
karl: Ugly? Maybe, it resembles a Miami River Tarpon; one of several species that can be caught here: http://www.miamirivercommission.org/images/history6.jpg I caught one in the Biscayne Bay, in the mangroves just north of Turkey Point It's considered a delicacy here in S. MongoN1
Ha, Jim that was great, we like to BBQ near turkey point, just leave the hotdogs on the table and the radiation just does the rest. jcadmus
I wasn't denying the coolness of this bass, incidentally -- just questioning its provenance. "Tours widely in the southwestern tip of Kentucky"

rizzo9247
I WAS OUTBID!!!! Not exactly a fish, but something to make the fish speak: SWR 4004 Bass Head http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320166742066&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=011 I just didn't pull the trigger. For just over $200 I could of made it my first real bass head. It was used, and the model was discontinued, so that added to my hesitation, you live and you learn I guess. Do you guys have any opinions on this model (please tell me it is terrible so I can justify not buying it ) -Angry Anthony
Luke73
(please tell me it is terrible so I can justify not buying it ) -Angry Anthony They're a fabulous head! A real classic - an absolute hen's tooth, and very difficult to find now. One of the best heads of all time, and would have been a steal at twice the price. Feel better now? ....sorry...just teasing - I know nothing about that head. http://www.myspace.com/twoshortrocks

But truthfully, I've never played through and SWR amp I really liked, so maybe they're just not my thing.
