Bah, no Michael Anthony. He just won't give us what we want will he. I mean everyone knows he is an INTEGRAL part of their sound with his high pitch harmonies. I may go, it really depends on prices. I won't spend a crazy amount of money on it thats for sure.

I think I paid $20 to see them last time in 1985..

A sucessful band is the sum of all the players. It is rare that a band that doesn't place one of the members as a leader and top draw can replace a member.

Even with Zep. You had 2 front men, Page and Plant. No drummer could fill the empty slot.

The Who was never the WHO to me when they decided to continue.

The drummer or bass player or singer may not be the GREATEST but if they are sucessful, it is because of the personality of the band.

There are a few exceptions but few.

Peace

I'm suprised people care whether Michael is playing bass or not. I was never a Van Halen fan though, so maybe I'm missing something. Is it more about his background vocals? His bass playing always seemed weak to me.

I saw Van Halen in '82 and Van Hagar in '93 and enjoyed both shows. I have always kind of thought of it as Eddie and Alex's band. I certainly liked Michael Anthony on bass and yes, his backing vocals kicked. He was part of the personality of the band. I will agree that nothing will replace the original band here just like nothing will replace the original Who or Zep. Now it is what it is and I don't see Michael coming back.

Seeing and hearing Eddie play live is a treat - well, it was then and I am sure it still is. And it should be regardless of who is on vocals or bass if you are a Van Halen fan.

I think his vocals are key for the VH sound. Beyond that, alot of people seem to rip on him for his bass playing but he is a total pro and fits VH like a glove. I mean he doesn't have any timing errors I can pick out.

I think its cool Eddie wants to have his son play. I bet Mike A thinks it is cool too. Maybe he doesn't want to play with VH anymore. It has been a long time. But 1 tour with the old lineup at least before that?

I am not doubting his kid isn't an awesome musician, I just think it has been a long time of fans wanting a reuinion with the original lineup. Kind of a let down.

Yeah Gift, in rereading my post it came out a little harsher than I meant, I didn't really mean to rip on him. I just didn't realize how many people were po'd that he wasn't going to be on this tour. I've had a couple of guy's who are huge VH fans tell me they weren't going because of it. I wouldn't have thought he would have been a dealbreaker is all I really meant. I'm sure Eddie's kid can cover the bass lines, they are pretty basic. I wasn't really factoring in the background vocals, but to be honest if you told me Alex did all the harmonies I wouldn't have known any better.

That's the cost to park at the Staples Center now.

I will pay up to $200 to see them on their Last Hurrah tour, but they will never match the 1979 World Vacation tour when they were still hungry.

It better be better than the 2004 Van Hagar tour which sucked.

Bass is hardly ever about how fast you can play or how many notes. It's usually about playing a simple line with the right feel. The feel thing is the hard part. That's why people hire guys like Chuck Rainey or Lee Sklar. I don't begrudge Eddie hiring his son but Mike played the perfect bass for Van Halen and did the bv part fine too. The real reason for omitting him is rumoured to be sour grapes because he (Mike) toured with Sammy Hagar.

Wolfgang is probably the reason Eddie went to rehab.

The kid is supposed to be an amazing player; bass, guitar and drums.

Three Van Halens and David Lee Roth.

Michael Anthony can go tour with Sammy Hagar

Scratch that.

Maybe going on tour with Dad, Uncle Alex and David Lee isn't quite the best thing for the kid.

Right and what's Michael supposed to do to pay his bills, while EVH is sitting around doing porn tracks, getting drunk and being his usual ass hole self! I think Mike's better off with Hagar anyway!

This is starting to look like the Las Vegas version of VH. :(

I saw both lineups way back when. Michael was fun to watch. One of the most animated and amusing bass players I ever saw. Who's going to down the fifth of "Jack" (aka iced tea, supposedly) with him gone?

Still, if the price is right and I can actually get tix, I'd go see VH one more time.

I would like to go, but only if they play some really cool stuff. I hate seeing a band and then being dissapointed with a watered down boring setlist. You know, all the songs you have heard a million times on the radio.

Thats annoying. It would be nice to see a band that didn't do that and did it thier way. I mean a band with a backlog of hits.

Like I would love to see VH play songs like,

I'm the One

Outta Love

Loss of Control

Secrets

5150 (with Roth singing cuz apparently he wrote it with Eddie before he quit the band)

Hang em high

Full Bug

Girl Gone Bad

Drop Dead Legs

So this is Love

Bottoms up

Atomic punk

Meanstreets

Unchained

Romeo Delight

Panama

I have some hits in there but I didn't include the ones that make you change the station cuz you have heard them 400 times (this month)
