blitzkrieg bop
Our 2nd anniversary is coming up and I thought I could surprise my wife with a weekend trip somewhere. I am on a budget, so nothing extravagant. Any suggestions? We're in Rochester, Ny, and I'm will to try New York City, Toronto, Montreal...anywhere in decent driving or short flight distance, so looking for replies from people in these areas. Thanks! Xplorer
Can't go wrong with Niagra Falls. Tour the wineries. What a horrible night to have a curse.
Dr. Ellwood
LOVE Toronto and the Canadian Niagra Falls..tons of fun, Toronto can get pretty pricey though! If you love science and technology don't miss the Science Center in Toronto!!! http://www.thestringnetwork.com

Dr. Ellwood
May I suggest romantic Hamtramck Michigan, set at the center of dynamic Wayne County, steeped in European tradition and fine cuisine it is only a stones throw away from the river walk, designed for lovers as the quiet Detroit River burbles on it's it way to Lake Erie. http://www.thestringnetwork.com

Strategery
Not far from Rochester, the Finger Lakes in New York State are pretty cool. My wife and I, daughter and son in law spent a weekend here last fall and we had a blast! I liked Keuka Lake because of the vinyards. THe lake is beautiful and there's vinyards and vintners all around the lake where you can stop in and sample wine, cheese and food and just have a good time. There are some small pubs in a couple of lake villages as well. It's all around just a cool place to visit. blitzkrieg bop
What do you and your wife like to do? There are many different options between Rochester and NYC/Toronto/Montreal...depending on your tastes/interests. Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I think we need a relaxing weekend getaway, we've both been working a lot between the house and job. I think I'm ruling out NYC. Toronto is a possibility, but may not be a quaint as I would like. We've been to Niagara Falls a bunch of times, as well the 1000 Islands, both awesome places, but I wanted to try something different. I was also thinking Lake George in the Adirondacks. We would like somewhere peaceful, unique shopping, good food, maybe some live music, nice scenery. We really need a relaxing place to go to, although not somewhere where there are virtually no activities or nothing to do. Somewhere with water, maybe take a boat ride or something. blitzkrieg bop
Not far from Rochester, the Finger Lakes in New York State are pretty cool. Thanks Strat...We actually spent a day doing the wine tours and site seeing last September, it's very beautiful country. We went around Keuka and Seneca lakes. Canandaigua Lake is also a nice place we haven't been to in awhile, another possibility. Strategery
Ahhhh...you've already been there. Yep, I'd want to do something different too. We also did the Canada side of Niagara Falls on the same trip, and it was fun...but it just wasn't me. Well, that's the extent of what little I know about your area. Good luck and happy anniversary! Randy "Just play!"
Bluesape
There's Alexandria Bay, just across the St. Lawrence is Kingston, Ontario. If you like water, the 1000 Islands are hard to beat within a day's drive of Rochester. Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never! miroslav
I was also thinking Lake George in the Adirondacks. Lake George/Saratoga is a good destination for a peaceful/laid-back vacation.though from late July thru early Sept (not sure when you are going on vacation) Saratoga gets a bit revved up with the horse racingbut maybe you would enjoy that? http://www.lakegeorge-saratoga.com/ http://www.nyra.com/Saratoga/GeneralInformation/Calendar/Calendar.shtml If you want to travel a bit further south into NY Statethis place is very nice (I've been gone to the Sunday brunch)and I believe that are NO outside phones or TVs in the roomsso you get a lot of quiet time. http://www.mohonk.com/?src=ppc_google_brandcampaign miroslav - miroslavmusic.com "Just because it happened to you, it doesn't mean it's important."
