mdrs
I've been of the opinion that many of the best guitarists out there today are playing Country Music. Watching the Academy of Country Music Awards on T.V. tonight, and I've not seen nor heard more good guitar playing than this in a long time. Some of these guys can rock. Currently watchin Vince Gill kick some behind on his blackface Tele.... Anyone else notice that Country Music still seems to respect the guitar, and a good guitar player?? otherstar
I'll third that!! Even the guys on the bluegrass side of things are still REALLY good. I love Dan Tyminski and the instrumental he does with Ron Block on the Crossroads DVD is niiice. Vince Gill has a nice bit on that DVD too. Turn me over, I'm done on this side... Kramer Ferrington III.
Anyone else notice that Country Music still seems to respect the guitar, and a good guitar player?? Yep. And I've noticed the same thing about classical, metal, folk and jazz. ...I don't really get your point? fantasticsound
I think he's referring to popular music, Vince. The music genres you mention are niche music with the possible exception of metal. (Depends on what you consider metal.) I almost fell over reading your comment, otherstar. "Even the guys on the bluegrass side of things are REALLY good." :D Of all the genres I can think of bluegrass is the one style you simply cannot be mediocre at and sound good. It requires a high level of musicianship no matter what instrument you play because they all play melody at one point or another over the other instruments, usually at a reasonably fast pace. My experience is the bluegrass musicians I've been around and worked with are, by a long shot, the most accomplished musicians I know, as a group. It's easiest to find me on Facebook. It never ceases to amaze me how bluegrass cats can play these lovely, melodic lines at tempos that would cause the hardest of hardcore speed metalers to blush. And, my experience mimics Neils....those Bluegrass guys are amazing. In a Bluegrass band, there is no place to hide. In general, Country (and Bluegrass) is a genre that guitarists still get to take a solo or two.....and display some chops! Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. I am not a country fan by any means, but they sure as hell can play better than any of these modern rock players that do nothing better than rip one another. I'm trying to get my 9-year old son to listen to all types of guitar music. On Friday I got the Dan Tyminski/Alison Krauss & Union Station version of "Rain Please Go Away" (Brother Where Art Thou for those not into Bluegrass) and he's been singing "Rain-ee please go awaaayyyy-aye" for two days straight now!
