ProfD
Since MeShell NdegeOcello was mentioned in the underrated thread, for those interested, here is a clip of a trio featuring two members of her former band, Federico Pena (keys) and Gene Lake (drums) along with Gregoire Mamet on harmonica. Whenever Federico is home and hits Chuck Levins, the keyboard department shuts down. PD "The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return."--E. cnegrad
Thanks Prof, I love Federico Pena. I only know his playing from two of these YouTube videos. I wish he'd record something of his original jazz work...
ProfD
Thanks Prof, I love Federico Pena. I only know his playing from two of these YouTube videos. I wish he'd record something of his original jazz work... Cnegrad, I just asked him about it (again) last week. While he has some cool tunes (think Joe Zawinul), this cat is a player first and foremost, musician's musician. I believe a record is forthcoming but it will probably come in a band format moreso than a solo effort. We'll see. Roger Hooper
Freddie is a real nice guy, a humble guy, and one of the greatest keyboard players I've ever heard. It was always a treat when he came in, hung out, and played. He is an artistic BC3 practioner. ProfD
linwood, you would love this cat digging into a Rhodes. Absolute monster. While committing a felony against most keyboard players, as Roger stated above, the most humble person you will ever meet. Beautiful personality, zero ego. meccajay
Few thoughts.. -I LOVE that cat on harp.. great stuff! -I kinda wished that was quartet with an ac bass. That way Fred gets freed up to do that voodoo that he do! -Maybe one of you guys will reach out to Fred and gently force him to record a couple albums worth of matetial. Cowrite it with him, make it a third standards, a third your stuff, and a third his songs...everyone's happy! Especially the world full of music lovers!! -Bass synth, Was that the MicroKorg again? Seeing it everywhere. Everyone from the group Cameo, to electronica, to jazz players using that thing. TROLL . . . ish.
ProfD
Jay, that is a Moog Source. Sure, a bass player would have been nice and you know who I have in mind too (M. Neal). BOPBEEPER
Great! Ive never heard sush un-cliched and powerfull harmonica improv before.Wonder what kind of harp he was using - that was loud and expressive - looked like quite a small harp by the look of his hands. I tried to search for Meshell (here) but didnt come up with anything else. I are an *******(CENSORED) too.

Phil W
Still not watched this I must take the time tonight, last night I was engrossed in a major football match involving my team. I saw Federico play with Meshell at a great gig in Clapham, years ago. It was one of the best gigs I've seen; marred only by overloud keyboards in the mix. If that had been anyone else that would have been more of a problem though - it wasn;t Federico's fault and what he played was very sweet indeed! http://philwbass.com
Phil W
That's d'Angelo's Chicken Grease groove at first before the melody! Great rhythm section. I've seen Gregoire Maret before, lovely player!
