I would have NEVER purchased this guitar....

If I had known it was famous for such besetting, never-ending static, buzzing, spitting, sputtering and croaking! Minus the croaking everything prior could very well be applied without the utilisation of over-exaggeration. Anyways... Months ago, last year to be precise, I purchased a Jackson JS30WR, my first guitar basically, minus the Fender I bought with the starter pack. I plugged it in and immediately it began doing what I expounded upon earlier and soon after I bought a new cable thinking that I needed a new amplifier cable due to the one I had being rather worn and delapidated, but obviously that wasn't the case, so I immediately took it to my local guitar dealer to have a technician look it over and attempt to decipher the problem. After waiting a week or so I finally received word on what the problem was, he spoke thus: "I've not a clue as to what the problem is, it could very well be bad electrical grounding in your home. I plugged the guitar in at my home and there was no such static whatsoever, I took the back off and didn't see any problems with the wiring, either." The odd thing is that it statics, spits, and croaks at home, at my grandmother's, at the dealer's shop, but not at his home, supposedly. it could very well be bad grounding in the homes, but I am skeptical.

I've been told that perhaps it could be the pots as Jackson guitars are reliable when it comes to producing such wonderful croaks, but if such were true then he should have very well told me so and assured me and ultimately mended the problem. So, do you fellows think I should waste a bit of money on getting pots installed and in the end still perhaps endure the static, or should I just deal with it until I can buy a new guitar?

PoD.....tough call. A good tech should be able to find any electrical issues. Did you take it to the tech at the place you bought it?? Maybe bring it to another tech elsewhere to be sure that they aren't just covering their perverbial buttocks!!

Have you played it elsewhere to see if it acts up there too? Also, make sure you are not playing near some source of electrial interference, etc.. Also, is your amp alright?

I ordered thru the internet and brought it to my local guitar dealership. When it comes to guitar dealerships 'round here, they are very rare indeed as most instrument shops only sell pianos, flutes, horns, and the like.

I have played it, yes, at the store (as I take lessons every week from there and it statics in every amp I plug it in to) my grandmother's, and of course at home which was the introductory area that introduced this besetment.

My amplifier... HA! It's the same practise amp I bought three years ago with my Fender starter kit. I have pondered the amp being the source of the problem but figured as it croaked in every other amp I plugged it in to then it probably wasn't the culprit. Any power tool or machinery that is activated near my home I can hear thru my amp - it's quite funny attempting to play over a drill or leaf blower.

YES!....eveything you are saying COULD BE a amp problem. Not for sure but it IS possiable..move the amp to another room on a different circut completely. Also make sure you guitar cable is good! if you have a polarity swithch on the back of the amp ..reverse the polarity and try it. Try it through another amp.. or put it though your stereo, try to elminate all these things before you blame the guitar itself..it may very well be the guitar but not necessarly ...keep us imformed on this.

My thanks, I shall try moving it to a different room.

My cable is good, it's practically brand new, and my amp doesn't have a polarity switch unfourtunately - it's just a basic, low-quality practise amp.

*shudders*

I've had a bad experience with Jackson guitars... the pots and pickups on mine started producing weird noises about a year after I bought it... does it create static or sputtering noises when you turn any of the pots (volume or tone)? Pickup selector switch? If so, then it's like mine and it's just terrible stock electronics. You mentioned the pots, and that's exactly what went first on my Jackson.

If you know a friend that is good with electronic repairs, you can ask him to take a look. Buddy of mine just cleaned up the pickup switch and rewired it, and eliminated some of the issues with mine... but I still need to replace the pots.

These JS30 Jacksons are by no means up to par with the US Jacksons. They are made from very low quality parts. That being said, they are still a decent practice guitar, but you really should change the pots in them. They are just shitty quality pots... also the pickups puff large.

I've had experience with these guitars. I've repaired 3 new ones with the exact same issue. I own one myself. It needed a new volume pot, and I put a EMG HZ in the bridge. It's a nice playing guitar once it's set up. Don't let the electronics put you off too much. It's a simple and cheap repair.

I would buy another one of these guitars, but I'd make sure I ordered a set of decent(not high) quality pots to put in it right off the bat. And a decent bridge pickup will make all the difference in the world also.

What a horrible night to have a curse.

Replacing the pots, in terms of paying for the parts, shouldn't be all that expensive. A great pot souldn't cost more than $5 apiece, and probably less. If you can work a soldering iron, it's not a very complicated repair to do yourself. The pots themselves are more than likely either 250K or 500K, and readily available a lot of places, including the internet.

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

Bloody hell, if I had known that I would have purchased a US manufactured guitar instead. I'll get around to looking at some pots to replace these as well as a pickup to replace the one currently installed.

Yes, definitely when I turn the volume knob and the treble knob, and upon touching either knob the static completely dissapears and all is perfectly quiet, same when I touch the pickup selector and the the cable's head when plugged into my guitar.

I'll have to run to the dealership and get one of their technicians to repair it as I don't have any friends much less know anyone that is proficient with electronic repairs.

That sounds like a ground wire is either not properly soldered or has a break in it somewhere. If you touch the metal and the noise goes away, it's likely grounding. What you are doing is completing the ground circuit through your finger.

Take is to a guitar tech, sould be any easy/cheap fix dude. If you can, have him/her also replace the pots for good measure. Don't spent more than $15!

What a horrible night to have a curse.

Hey dude, I'm doing great! Married life is treating me well! Very busy these days... my project guitar is taking up my free time. I'm supposed to be going to Detroit tommorow for a customer review at Crysler. Always a good time! :bor:

I'll start a thread and post a pic of my guit box. I don't want to hijack this thread anymore than I am doing now!

Are you making lots of noise up in the North? Any new gear?

Yeah, I'll keep it short so I'm not hijacking either.

Still living down south. No new gear yet, but I may be looking for a new job soon...

Shoot, PoD, buy me air fare to Ipswich (would I go into Heathrow or Gatwick?) and I'll fix your guitar for you - I'll even bring my own soldering pen and kick in the solder gratis! I haven't been to the U.K since 1986 but would love to go.

As has been said, your dealership should be able to repair your guitar for what is called in Massachusetts "short money."

I really enjoy playing the guitar, the neck is very comfortable and easy to move around when playing, unlike my Fender with those bloody jumbo frets and its uncomfortable neck.

I play metal, specifically thrash, black, and death. Really influenced by the likes of Deicide, Slayer, Impaled Nazarene, Dark Throne, Dark Funeral, Trivium and so on.

Hell, I would, but I am the currently the definition of the word "broke." 30 pounds wouldn't buy a ticket - that's definite - as that's all I have. :deadhorse:
