Oh no, it's two more of them goofy old PA amplifiers that have been modded into screamin' guitar amps...

They are both great-sounding amps, although the one on the right is in a class by itself. Class A, that is. Still haven't really had a chance to put them through their paces yet, but I'll report back once I've had them around for a few days....

For the heck of it; here's my regular gigging amp. A year and a half and it still works beautifully.

My next one is a separate head with a 1X15 cab. It's not finished yet but sounds incredible.

Dude, you got skillz... Nice work on the cabinet.

Back in April we played a gig just outside of Hartford, at a place called Dunnigans.

Hey, I've got an old tube PA head(uses 6L6's), can't remember the brand except that it's some audiophile hi-fi company from ages ago, that I would like to have modded into a screaming guitar head. Who does that?

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

I don't know if all old tube PA heads are candidates for modding. Depends on the iron and what kind of tubes it uses. If it has normal guitar amp tubes (6L6, 6V6, 5881) and decent iron it probably could be hacked into something useful.

I've gotten mine from my buddy Leftee, but I don't know if he mods other people's stuff or just amps he's managed to acquire over the years.

Thank you. I really like the amp. I'm all about efficient setup/teardown without sacrificing options. Having the wireless built in to the amp is great. I just run send and return cables to my pedal board and I'm done.

I just noticed that you're in Madison. I'm about 45 minutes East of you. We used to play in Madison a fair amount but we're hardly playing at all these days. I need to find some time to line up some band work. I've been so damn busy lately that I just can't seem to get out. Are there any decent Blues clubs in Madtown?

Michael,

You just reminded me of an amp I modified when I was in 10th grade. Our school bought a electronic bell (church type) and had me look at it to see if I could get it to work.

THe clock mechanism was shot but I parted it out and tripled the money the school paid for it so they were happy. What I did keep was the 500 watt tube amp that amplified the bells.

It took me a while but I finally go it to work with a Sure Vocal Master mixer. Blew the 1st set of speaker I hooked it to so I built a pair of killer PA speakers. each cab had 2 15" altec speakers, a 811 horn with driver and 8 8" full range bozak speakers. The cab was a folded horn design. Man, did that thing blow some doors in. I have no idea what it could handle but it had to be close to 1000 watts. It sounded fantastic.

I remember one of our guitar players hooking up to it at a large gig we were playing and cranked it up to 3. We couldn't take the volume. The tone was fantastic and the sustain? They don't make pedals that come even close.

I still have the speaker plans. A little costly today but back then, the components cost just over $100 per cab.

I currently have all the components in my workshop and when I am able, I am going to build another pair. This time I am going to have the cabs done with Rhino Liner. It is an indestructable truck bed liner that has great sound dampening qaulities.

If I ever finish them, I'll post a picture.

Peace

Those are sweeeeeet, Michael! What chance is there of meeting up with you and Paul either on Memorial Day weekend or the Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of that week? I'll be in Gurnee and Fox Lake, Il. for my brother in law's wedding, but we're taking the entire week to visit with friends we never have time to see on a typical long weekend back home. I'm determined to meet Paul, face to face. The more the merrier, I say.

With guitars and amps, of course.

(That's not a joke! ;) )

It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman
