markwillplay
I was wondering if anyone here had one and knew how to save the settings. I have done what the manual says but it is a bit confusing and the guy at Ropland was not much help at all really. I just want to be able to change all the TV organs and have them be that way when I turn the keyboard back on (or be able to recall them) instead of having to re-do them each time. Thanks, Mark
Bob Resnikoff
Here's what I wrote to someone who wanted to save his piano touch settings. "My system settings (piano designer, p.63) are: lid=6, damper noise=4,duplex scale=2,string resonance=4, key off=5,hammer response=1,hammer noise=0, and default stretch tuning (you have to be in Grand Piano 1 to make these adjustments). In order for lid, damper noise, and duplex scale to be effective the multi-effects button must be lit and set to damper response. Btw, these settings can be saved (p. 65). My keyboard touch is set to super-heavy right now. The touch (and other) settings can be saved by putting them in a registration (p.80): after you've adjusted the touch, press and hold the registration button and press one of the tone buttons (I use piano). Then release both buttons. You now have the option to label the registration but I don't bother with that (I only have one). I press the registration button and the settings are saved. To recall the settings after you've powered on the keyboard, press the registration button (don't hold it), then press piano (if you saved the registration there), and then press registration again to turn off the recall sequence. Your touch settings should now be the way you saved them." Hope this helps. Bob
Jazz+
How do you like your FP7? I like the FP4 piano sounds, it's almost the same as the RD-700SX Superior Grand. Bob Resnikoff
I like it very much. I'm still fooling around with settings to try to get the sound and feel just right. I'm a classical player and use it when I can't get to my acoustic piano for one reason or another. Usually when I buy something, I find it doesn't live up to my expectations--but in this case it's the opposite. It's expressive, and feels and sounds better than I had hoped for. (Btw, this is my first digital keyboard.) Bob
SK
An FP7/FP4 question: No stores are carrying them in my area, so I can't compare them yet.. I've read in other threads where Jazz+ said he prefers the FP4 - and I'm hoping I will too (weight & pricewise.) A salesguy at Chuck Levins' told me today (on the phone) that while the samples in both keyboards (FP7/FP4) are from the 700SX's Superior Grand, he said the FP7 has "a higher quality sample" than the FP4. He also mentioned the onboard speakers sound much better on the 7. Sure, I knew the speakers were better. But regarding the sample quality, I'm wondering if this is just a sales ploy or if anyone here has heard about this, or even noticed it. (I somewhat doubt the samples themselves are different.) Thanks a lot. CD: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/stevekessler
Jazz+
I think GP1 on the FP4 and FP7 sound the same, but they might be EQed a little differently and the FP7 has more Touch settings. Yeah, the speakers are better in the FP7. Harry was the Technical Editor of Mark Levine's "The Jazz Theory Book" and helped develop "The Jazz Piano Book."
