AeroG33k
I'm at my parents place for a bit during the summer. There's an old(!) parlor guitar there that I used to play on when taking classical lessons as a kid. Knowing more about guitars now, I know it's OLD. Tuners have been replaced, the neck is slightly warped, frets are really tiny, soundboard is cracked...it's not in good shape. Still, fixing it, so I've been told, wouldn't be worth it because neck repairs are expensive and since it's a "no brand" instrument, they say it isn't worth much (to anyone else), despite the age. The bridge has a metal saddle and has bridge pins (not classical style) and ornate acorn carvings on each side. The back and sides seem to be mahogany and it even has some figuring! The top -I *think* is spruce but it is very dark over the years. Anyway, it sounds wonderful to me. Maybe a bit "dull" (not bright) but it makes up for it with sweetness and overtones. It's also much smaller, being a parlor guitar, so it's much easier for me to play with my freakishly small hands. So, I put folk nylon strings on it and tuned it up a step and it hasn't stopped to inspire me yet! Here's a clip of me playing it, hope this isn't considered spam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSEA80jCl9M I may be posting more detailed pictures of it if you guys want. -Andy "I know we all can't stay here forever so I want to write my words on the face of today...and they'll paint it" -Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon)
The Geoff
It's not spam, Andy, it's love. Sometimes you just have to carry out a labour of love, and fixing up that guitar, which means so much to you, may just be that! G. mdrs
Andy....Excellent playing!! And, you are right....that little guitar has character, and a nice warm sounding tone. It sounds like you "grew up" with that guitar. I'd think it worth the investment of some money, and some continued TLC.....It obviously means a lot to you. And, I'd love to see some photos of it. If there is a label, try to get a photo of it, too. Thanks for posting that!! Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. Scott Fraser
So cool. I love parlor guitars. I just inherited my grandfather's parlor guitar from the 20's. It's not only a lovely relic it's a great heirloom. Have fun, Andy. Scott Fraser Scott Fraser
