Another S90 question

Recommended Posts

According to sninety.com's "Ten Basic Skills", if I change a parameter using the sliders (typically removing or drastically reducing the wash of reverb on the pianos and EPs) and hit "STORE", the change should become permanent. This doesn't work for some reason.

If I change the reverb by going "JOB" -> "EDIT" -> "REV SEND" (adjust down) -> "STORE" -> "ENTER" -> "YES", it says "EXECUTING", then "COMPLETED", but when I go back, the reverb is still there and the reverb send is at its previous setting.

What am I doing wrong? Or is there a problem with the editor?

It's been a while since I had any interaction with an S-90 but since no one else has responded I'll share what I hope I remember coorectly as the procedure. You do indeed press the STORE button but then when prompted to select a location you must select a patch # in the User Bank. I think.....

Thanks very much for the help.

I find this board really un-intuitive (non-intuitive?). Plus, it doesn't seem to always prompt to save in the USER bank and sometimes I'd swear it allows me to edit (and save changes) without storing in the USER bank. I'm still kinda confused, but I think I have the heavy wash of reverb toned down on all the pianos and EPs I use.

Thanks again.

Misterdregs, I have an S90ES. The interface (both the screen and the overall layout of the buttons) is not as intuitive to me as other boards I've worked with, so I agree with you. However, you can get a feel for the patterns of use eventually. I still have a lot to learn on it, and I have limited time, but I am starting to find my way around it; though I am no where near mastering it to my satisfaction. Ultimately - what is intuitive to a large degree is what is familiar. This board works differently than other manufacturers. But once you use it enough, it becomes ,, umm, , less un-intuitive. :)

Misintuative? Contratuative? Negatuative?

I've had the S90 for awhile and even got the "S90 Under Control" DVD. Now, if I would spend more time with the keyboard and less time on the Keyboard Corner...

The Nord Electro is more my style for ease of use.

Thanks again.

misterdregs, hit the effects bypass and wean thyself from reverb. The dry sound is an acquired taste. ;)

Those edited sounds are somewhere in the USER bank.

...hit the effects bypass and wean thyself from reverb.

Oh, I've got the REVERB SEND dialed down to around 6 to 8 for the acoustic pianos, so I'm almost there. I've been using the EFFECTS BYPASS too, but then I lose the other cool stuff, like the phasey stuff, etc. on a patch like the "Sweetness" EP.

Plus, in the middle of a tune, I hate looking around for buttons in the semi-darkness, especially after a few beers.

EPs definitely benefit from phase and wah. :thu:

If the reverb is dialed down that far on pianos, you are definitely there.
