Nicklab
I saw a piece about the school recently on an international tv news feed. A lot of it was an interview with Flea and he explained the philosophy of the school. They're trying to take on a role as music educators for kids in the L.A. area since the public schools can't afford music programs. He went on to explain that they're stressing fundamentals and classical training. They're accepting tuition from kids whose parents can afford to pay and when kids can't pay they're admitted with their financial circumstances in mind. It's great to see someone who's been as successful as Flea really giving back to the community like this. Nicklab
I can only hope that this kind of idea catches on with communities where the school districts have cut their music programs. That seems to be an all too common thing for schools to do when they can't meet their budget targets. This is a fantastic idea and a wonderful way for an excellent musician to "give back" to the kids who listen to him. I would not be the musician I am now without the music program in my elementary, jr. high and high schools and without the hard-working teachers in those programs. Free download of my cd!.
