1958 FENDER TWEED TWIN

What I don't understand is why the shipping is going to be $400...?

Is that how much it would cost to insure a $30,000 item with UPS/FedEx...?

Anyway...if I had $30k laying around to drop on this puppy...

...I would drive down to MD and pick it up personally! :thu:

OK...now go wipe the drool off you faces!

I've actually been watching this guys "stuff" for a while. For instance, he's been trying to sell that Bassman for quite a while.

I think he has/had a studio (??), and supposedly is selling stuff off.

He seems to have top notch, almost museum quality stuff...and most of his stuff is the "iconic" old stuff....tweed twin, tweed bassman, blackguard Tele, etc..

Looks like he's hoping to catch someone with some excess $$$ who doesn't know current market values.....

Good luck to him!! His stuff does look totally top shelf.

Yea, I AM DROOLING, FOR SURE!!

I'm curious about his prices...do they seem too high or about ballpark for those pieces and their condition...?

Big generalizations here...but, he's "in the ballpark" on the guitars that are non orig (overspray, very worn neck...'56 strat), and the '60 Strat.

The rest, he's between 50% and 250% overpriced, based on "book value". If you are going to command a premium, I guess you might as well go BIG !!

Now, some good pieces will definately go for well over book value. It's deal by deal, so to speak.

So, I'd say, he's got some great stuff. I don't think he's in any hurry to sell them. Not a bad stradegy, since they go up in value with time!! But, I'd say he's not starving for money....

He has had this stuff up for sale for a while, so it's hard to tell what he's up to.

Reminds me of a neighboor, who offered his farm for sale at about 3 times it's actual value. He had the "for sale by owner" sign up for about 6 years, until a affluent guy from "the big city" saw the sign, felt it was a good deal since land where he lives was way higher, and he bought it!! Patience, in that case, paid off!!

It looks like he is 1 - looking to retire. 2- Trying to find suckers on a few of these pieces. 3 - Has an ego problem. 4 - Sounds more like an agency then a private seller.

His D45 is WAY over priced. Bad year for any Martin

Doc, you're the expert but I seem to remember there were some serious problems with the late 50's Strats.

Peace

Hey Zub...I'm more an interested and enthusiastic student of old guitars and amps, as opposed to an expert....I have learned a lot in the past five years. But, I really lean on two friends, both of whom ARE experts.

THAT SOUNDS A LOT LIKE THAT HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS ADD, DOESN'T IT?? LOL

I have not come across anything that I can think of regarding problems with late '50's Strats. What sort of problems?

I'll enquire with MY EXPERTS, and report back!!

Zub...the word I get is that there are no issues with late fiftys Strats.

As with any guitar, you either get a good one, or you don't. But, there are no "systemic issues" that I'm aware of.

Speaking of Strats, When we played the HoB in Orlando a few weeks back, Paul Barerre had his 60 Strat with him and a guy got back stage and offered him 60K for it. Said if Paul was willin', he could be back in 45 min with cash.

The guitar was given to him by the late Lowell George and he ain't parting with it!

Peace
