matt007
I'm just getting into the whole DAW/MIDI thing. I am in the market for a MIDI controller keyboard and a drum pad. I don't know how to play much keyboard, so most of my compositions would be built up in layers. I was looking at the Axiom 25 because it includes the 8 drum pads. Would it be smarter of me to pick up the 49 key Axiom? Or even another 49 key controller and then the 16 pad Trigger Finger as well? Or do you think a beginner would be set for a while with 25 keys and 8 pads? Thanks for the help!
iLaw
Even given the limitations you've set for your use of the keyboard, I can't imagine laying in any kind of interesting moving part on a keyboard with only 25 keys. Even simple open four-voice chords would be constantly into bumping the ends of the board. Give yourself at least the 49 keys.
Synthoid
Even 49 keys seems small to me. I prefer 61 keys for any serious two-handed pieces. When an eel hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's a Moray.
jay da cop
That's why I just bought an Axiom61. My first synths were a Roland Juno 1 and Korg Poly 800. You run out of space QUICK. So, Matt, play around some more with the larger ones, get a feel for them, ask questions, and see what happens. The difference in money at that level is negligible. Make sure you get what you will use, and a little room to grow musically. Right now you are at a certain level, but as you grow you will require more space. Why not invest now, and your skills will grow without the gear holding you back. Just my thoughts. Jay

Why buy something today that will end up in the bottom of the closet in 6 months? When an eel hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's a Moray.
