Boggs
http://www.chrisguitars.com/fen-deluxe85.jpg http://www.chrisguitars.com/fen-deluxe85-3.jpg "...from the mid-80's "red-knob" series. I remember these back when I worked at Hotlicks and they still sound great. Two channels, footswitchable, with classic Fender reverb, plenty of tone-shaping via push-switches and rotary EQ knobs. The Limiter is especially useful and quiet, and lets you play leads with incredible sustain, evening out the attack, making your leads sound incredibly clean and even. All patching on front including effects loop, channel select, and headphones. 65 watts RMS is plenty for the stage and this thing sounds great at lower volumes and would make a quality back-stage/practice amp as well. Not mint but not beat and it really does sound excellent for a solid state, in fact, it's currently my test amp and I use it many times throughout the day. Why...because it sounds excellent and is capable of excellent clean - rock - and metal tones all in one 1X12 combo. Uses a 3-button footswitch and I may have one in my parts bin for $20 but all features are accessible via front panel. I personally think this is a killer sounding amp, with lots of versatility, and at $225, a real bargain." I got mine in better condition than the one pictured with the footswitch for $150 and no tax or shipping. As far as my own day in my booth went, I sold only one CigarBox amp to a guy who saw them last year. The guitars got pretty rave reviews, but nobody committed to a purchase. One guy must have played them for a half hour. It was nice hearing some real monster players really giving them a workout. The little solid body padauk and kelela Mantis practically stole the show... It was about everybody's favorite mainly from the shock factor of a little guitar sounding so huge. Jazz tones were effortless. The Candy Caramel blackburst Cicada was an eye-catcher. The pictures before didn't begin to do it justice. Sounds killer, too... The bloodwood CamelBack was big and articulate as all hell. I feel like the producer of the critically acclaimed film that did nothing at the box office. The coolest thing that happened was during teardown when I had my mp3 player playing a couple of my cyberjams through my PA for background and one of the previously mentioned monster players (hybrid picking technique Doyle Dykes kind of talented player) stopped his tearing down and came over to my booth and looked up at the speaker and asked me, "Who is that playing?" I told him it was me and he said, "That's YOU? Man, that's nice! What is it?" I told him about the backing track provided by CJ as it was my take on CJ45...He didn't go back to his booth until the song was over... That felt really good coming from somebody with more talent in his little finger than I'll ever have! Almost made up for the no sales day! Everyone plugged into the side I was on had major league (sale breaking) noise in the line and even the guis next to me had horrendous noise on their humbuckers as well as their singles. It made playing some of the single coils literally impossible. Really sucked in a big way. Also, by 2:30 in the afternoon, things were pretty dead as the Sabre game was on. I still learned more, so it wasn't a total loss. Still kind of disappointing though, but if it can happen to Dave Wendler, I would have to expect it to happen to me. Got lots of major KUDOS on the looks of my guitars and only one who loved how the Mantis sounded and played but just couldn't get into the shape. I'll try to get pics posted tomorrow. mdrs
Cool story, Boggs. Sounds like a great deal on that Fender. I'm sure all those players are stewing over your guitars!! It'll be like flies to the honey. Have you ever posted your music here?? I'd like to hear it.... Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. stamplicker
Boggs, remember a few more shows under your belt and they'll start selling on their own. Good thing is that people are eyeing it up, they'll do their research on what's what, and before you know it... HOTCAKES. Typcial consumers, if it's impulse buys ( which aren't to bad), but if they are, chances are they won't appreciate them for what they are, and selling them. The one's that do see them for what they are and do the research, will be the ones coming back to buy as well as tell all their friends about them. The Geoff
Boggs, that amp is *almost* the same as my Studio 85, except mine doesn't have the dual/parallel thing going on. The inputs are on the extreme left, then there's vol, bass, mids & treble. The tone controls are of the 'cut' variety (ie all off>no sound) - is yours the same? I then have pretty much the same overdrive section except it has a 'presence' control. I agree about the limiter - it's really useful, especially at lower vols. I think the two amps must sound very similar. Try bass at about 10/11am, mids full up and little or no treble. Up until recently I was running a Celestion G12-65 in it which opened it out - it was a bit 'boxy' sounding. The G12 is in the extension cab for the Laney now. fantasticsound
Hey Boggs, is that a tube amp? I have a 2 x 12, SS, Fender Power Chorus from the same era. I'm not crazy about the distorted sounds it produces, but with so many ways to input effected sounds it makes a great "hi-fi" amp to reproduce my modeling effects. Also, with the addition of the "magic eq box" from a pair of Bose 402 speakers through the stereo effect loop it has a wonderful sparkle on my L.R. Baggs, Ribbon transducer equipt acoustic. I bought mine in 1989, I think. Again, cool score! It's easiest to find me on Facebook. Neil Bergman Soundclick fntstcsnd

Boggs
Definitely SS, but it doesn't know better so it still sounds good! I lean towards clean anyway and it does it very well. Rampdog
I listened to you clips on your site Boggsy...I like that clean tone... Nice job... I admire your ability to build those things.. Labor of love it seems to me... If it ain't fun...why do it...? http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=778394&content=music
Strategery
Yep, I had the Power Chorus back then and it was pretty cool! SS for sure but it really rocked and would get loud as hell. My first amp like that was a Peavey Stereo Chorus 400 and hearing that STEREO sound for the first time coming from one amp was so COOL! The Fender Power Chorus was a great amp but just a tad limited. Sometimes though....I wish I had it back. Randy "Just play!"
fantasticsound
I know the Power Chorus is SS, Randy! I was surprised anything with the "Deluxe" banner would be SS, though. But the controls are identical to my Power Chorus other than the lack of the chorus and, I suspect, the back panel, gain adjustable, stereo effects loop to go with the front panel mono loop. Great amp for a SS. I'll have to try getting some distorted tones from it with effects in front. I also remember it was sorely lacking for clean tones on my electric guitars. Great for the acoustic but lacked the beefy tone of a tube power amp section. It was a real problem when I played clean tones to get them to sound full when they weren't buried in a mix. Boggs
This one happens twice a year at the Hearthstone Manor in Depew (east Buffalo). Awww crap! Fantasticsound, send me a round trip ticket an an audience with Phil Keaggy and I'm there! fantasticsound
Doh! I'd send you the ticket but I'm afraid Phil's unavailable so we'll just have to scrap it. Speaking of meeting up with forumites, Dave Bryce came to Nashville with the ADAM studio monitor manufacturer sometime in the past few months and I had no idea! I had to find out in the pages of Mix Magazine. Let me know if you come my way, sir! It's easiest to find me on Facebook.
