From the Saturation Point thread:

BTW, I'm startin' to see the dreaded F-word again! Using it, or even quoting someone else's use of it is a clear breach of the expected etiquette here. Trust me: I WILL delete your posts by the dozen if it continues. You know who you are - some of the most consistently contentious people here. Knock it off! FINAL WARNING!

I love it too, but I've been asked to enforce civility here, and some members go out of their way to push the envelope. I take it as a personal affront, and these individuals are making themselves expendable for the sake of the forum.

I personally love the F bomb but I wouldn't walk into sunday school and pop it off.

Now THERE"S a catch phrase!

Big R there's something poetic about that hehee - and it's an original quotation of yours, so I think you need to use it as a permanent tagline in your signature here. :D

I think you're letting your imagination get away from you a bit... ;)

If it slips out once in a blue moon...that's not what I would call "go out of their way to push the envelope".

Sorry...every once in awhile I forget that when I step into this forum I'm leaving the real world...and here certain words have to be "camouflaged" with special symbols so as not to offend...ahhh...mmm...well, I'm not sure who exactly?

Though I still find it comical that this: *$(!*$ some how hides the meaning...which it really doesn't.

But yeahI'll try and remember the special symbols.... :thu:

MP, just like any other corporate site, has a desire to keep profanity to a minimum. "Keeping it PG-13" for the kids, is the basic premise.

(edit)

You should be glad they don't just install a censor tool. You have any idea what a PITA it is to give someone a pass, or talk about the Kennedy Assasination, or the plumage of the male peacock, or delineate your favorite recipe for shitake mushrooms, when there's an auto-censor in place?

Not to turn this into a dead horse...

I fully understand that there needs to be a certain level of civility here.

And anyone that is repeatedly violating it with lots of abusive, profane language intended to attack and offend other individuals here...should be kicked out.

I may debate issues REAL HARDbut you would be hard pressed to find me deliberately being abusive and vulgar toward members.

But you know...even in the most civil environments...even at the corporate level...these days, the occasional use of "descriptive adjectives" is not all that uncommon or frowned upon...and often it is the context that will define the level of "violation".

I just really get a chuckle when I see a bunch of special characters in someones sentence.

It's just seems so naïve and bogus. Like when you see a nude image of someone on the front page of one of those supermarket check-outline rags

and the publisher placed those small black bars across the forbidden parts of the human anatomy. :D

But yeahI try to play along around herethough once in awhile in the heat of the momentwell, you know. :thu:

I shouldn't have to repeat over and over again that kids frequent here, and are encouraged to do so. People don't "slip up" with obscenities when consequences exist in the "real" world, and they should think before they type. Typing 4 characters takes a lot more focused effort than blurting out a poorly chosen syllable in spasm of Tourrette's-like confusion, so yeah, it's deliberately offensive.

Taken from the "Forum Rules"

6. No Profanity or Inappropriate Images.

Please remember that this is a family site and is therefore viewed by people of all ages. It's also important to note that folks who are logging in from their places of work, may wind up having pages that contain profanities, blocked. Therefore it is in everyones best interest to avoid it.

Sorrybut I just gotta ask...what kind of consequences exist in the real world...?

I mean, really?

I just don't recall anyone getting into ANY real trouble anywhere anytime these days for using an occasional descriptive adjective...if the context called for it...

...except maybe when I think WAAAAAAAAY back to my high school days when the teachers would admonish you for using them, maybe even make you stay after school for an hour to contemplate your transgression. ;)

As far as any young, little kids hanging out on these forums...well, except for MiniZan popping in on rare occasions...I really don't believe there are any

unless they all just lurk and never post anything...???

I beleive 99% of our membership is made up of legal age folks who probably hear much worse language in the real world than they ever do here. :thu:

Masie, Megiliel, Brent,........no doubt adults vastly outnumber kids, but that's not the point. Our behaviour here shouldn't discourage their presence.

Miro. It doesn't matter if it's silly, if there aren't that many kids here, if you can still tell what the word is etc. The fact is, it's not allowed here. Some forums get around it by putting a filter in place, that edits your posts when you swear. Here, it has to be done manually. That's a royal pain. So, we ask that you try to use some control and please refrain from swearing. Not that big a deal.

Another thread, with this one's name was inadverdently started by me, not Miro, and there's some UBB error with removing it. Please ignore.

Please allow me to be blunt.

Miro, I find reading your pontifications both annoying and boring.

The rules exist here. If you don't like the rules, find a more suitable venue. Simple, and easy to understand, I'd think.

Don...ask me if Id give $.02 for what you think. :thu:

I guess you must not find my posts THAT annoying and boring...since you obviously read all of them. ;)

Also...for someone who's managed to churn out close to 5000 posts in less than a year...I think you pontificate and blow a lot more hot air around here than I do.

You're just still sour over that little disagreement we had about vintage guitars a few threads back...and I can see this was a golden opportunity for you to finally feel brave enough toss out a little dig.

Why...?

I've left you alone, and not bothered to stir up anything with you since our last disagreement...but obviously, you still have something stuck in your craw.

My advice to you is to let sleeping dogs lie.

And that irony of it allis how you posted that thread on the right way to handle disagreements!!!

Yeahwhy dont you practice what you preach.

No, actually, I just think that you are a trouble maker. IMO you add very little in the way of positive imput. Yet, often seem to be at the center of "problems". It's plainly obvious.

And, I don't hold your past comments against you. LOL...Curiously, your opinion about vintage guitars seems not to have had much of an effect on the vintage guitar market.

But, profanity here is clearly against the rules. Why bother to make a ruckus about that??

You just like the attention. Kind of a passive aggressive thing, seems to me. So, it does becomes boring and annoying.

I know some have blocked you. I've felt that not to be necessary. But, I'm wondering if my position holds water.

Sorry...maybe I was wrong...maybe you DON'T read all my posts.

Or maybe you do...and it's just that the audio/music topics being covered are not your forte...?

I have no need to defend the quantity and/or quality of audio/music related posts that I made over the last 7 years on these forums.

There are enough posts that demonstrate my knowledge and experience...and a substantial number of those posts are dedicated to helping out people with audio related questions/problems. I take the time to answer as many questions as anyone may haveI guess thats the kind of troublemaker I am.

As far as your primary area of focus...well, I'd get into it a bit more with you over vintage guitars and amps, but first off...it's really not worth my serious time and effort...

...and second, I don't have a collection of vintage catalogs to reference like you do...

Other than thatlike I said once beforeits just a matter of digging into your walletand youre a collector! :thu:

And you know...you call me a troublemaker...but I recall you getting into it with some other folks not too long ago...so...should we also call YOU a troublemaker....or was it all their fault?

Like I said, learn to let sleeping dogs lie.

I havent bothered you over anything for awhile nowand I even tried a couple of times to engage you in a positive waybut you seem to be one of those grudge bearers. Maybe you should just join that little clique of post blockers since you know who they are.

Oh so very junior high-ish..

You seem to be living in some strange parallel universe. My post here had absolutely nothing to do with anything but your attack on the mods, who were atempting to keep our (or should I say your) verbage within the forum rules.

You brought up all that other stuff. Maybe, it is you who should learn to let sleeping dogs lie???

I'll just say, that I'll let my posts speak for themselves.
