Fitting an S90ES in the Car

Recommended Posts

I had a terrible time trying to fit the S90ES in the car. Normally, I have to take an SUV just for this board. I didn't want the Casio for this particular gig.

Trying to fit it on the backseat was an exercise in futility. This thing is just wider then most cars, even bigger ones. On my bigger car, the door handle cost me the extra inch I needed. I could lay it at an angle on the back seat but no one else can sit there.

But then I figured it out. I sat the S90ES like a passenger on the passenger front seat! Now it doesn't matter what car I use and people can sit on all the other seats. Not a bad deal.

but remember to fasten its seat belts...

It could limit you view though to the side.

I just fold back seat and put it along.

Other solution I was thinking is to put hard case

on roof rack. Last resort solution it would be drag behind you car on tow-line.

If your car doesn't have cruise control, you could instead sit it with you on the driver seat, then once on the highway place it on the gas pedal. :P

Seriously, depends on your particular car. I can bring my Kurzweil PC2XL (certainly as long as a S90ES) in my New Beetle. Of course, it's not very practical for the view and the passengers.

I know you can do a lot with the cute Beetle, but come on,

how did you fit in such board there, like below???

I used to have to lay back my front passenger seat, and put my P200 acrooss it and into the back seat. Some cars have the back seat which folds down to access the trunk

Or you can do like I did and get one of these. I have no problem with space.

I put a soft cover on it, and can get all my gear in there under cover, so it's safe from the elements.

See, piano man, if you didn't NEED those 88 weighted keys, a Motif ES7 would fit in your car just fine. :P

The alternative is to always drive the SUV at $5 per gallon of gas or sell the S90ES; cop a Motif ES rack and CME UF8. :D

My S80 sits across the back seat like 3 nuns. PA speaker in the trunk and accessory bag on the floor. Ready for the hit.

The rear seats fold, so I just open the trunk and slide the long Kurz carboard box up to over the front passenger seat (also folded). :)

Remember, the engine is now in the front. :D

The other benefit to having the S90ES sitting as a passenger, is that you can now use the carpool lanes!!! :)

I got it, so you had to move your engine too...

very clever ;)

That's what I do. It fits on the front passenger seat of a sedan, but with the pushing and shoving you can damage seats.

...and I only lose one passenger seat. Every other seat is taken by a person, not gear. That's the beauty of this. BUT -- that sucker is heavy...sigh...sometimes I wish the Casio had a better sound. That keyboard, I just put between the seats on the floor and everyone just hangs their feet over it. Full load of passengers -- no problem.

Road case? Forgetaboutit.

With the age of miniaturization, why the heck build it so big?

Here's a tip: most cars these days have fold-down back seats, which basically turn the back seat area into extra trunk space. I usually just fold down one of those bad boys down and stick my keyboard in through the trunk and into the back seat area. That'll still leave you with two seats available for others (one in back and one in front).

Depending on what car you have, that feature may not be available, but most station wagons and sedan style cars I've seen have the fold-down back seats.

edit: oops, I see that Cydonia already suggested that.

Bridog6996, that doesn't even work on my smaller 8 seater SUV. I'll be using up at least two seats. Neither of my cars have this option.

How come nobody likes my idea? Keyboard can't be taller than a person so in (almost) sitting position there's actually more room. I don't even have to lean the seat back that much. Hard to believe but true.

The beauty of the S90; the design flaw of the S90ES.

Busch.

+1,000

I have griped way too much about the width of the S90ES ever since the specs were announced and I saw those wheels on the left side, adding about 5" to the width. It prevented me from upgrading from S90 Classic to S90ES I'll show you why this has troubled me from a vehicle logistics standpoint (on top of the fact of needing to buy a new $400+ flight case).

Here's a picture of my gig-mobile loaded with just my gear. The long case on the left is my S90. I have enough room in my gig-mobile to fit 2 other people plus their gear, which is great for consolidating for road trips and sharing gas costs across 3 people.

Here's a close-up of the edge of my S90 case as it meets the end of the cargo bay in my Trooper. You'll see that it is an almost perfect fit and if the case was even 2" longer, the back door would not close.

There are some undesirable ways to get around this, such as putting in the keyboard diagonally, raising it up higher or hooking it into the front seat...but I need the space and modular storage space that I have now in order to carry other people and their gear.

As for the person that suggested carrying an S90ES on a roof rack, you've got to be crazy! Hoisting that sucker up on top of your vehicle would kill your back, scratch your car and leave the keyboard prone to the elements.

very good looking flight case, now I can understand why you hesitating so long with upgrading to S90ES. But S90XS won't be shorter either (if there will be one).

Boy do I understand this. The nightmares it bring back! When I used to own the S90ES. I couldn't fit it into my Dodge Intreped. It was one of the reasons I picked up a Korg Triton Extreme 61 so I could have something portable.

The thing is in Japan even a regular 88 won't fit in a car, so you might as well go hog wild.

In Japan, the roads are about 6 feet wide and lined with vending machines. Traffic is murder. They do have a great rail network though.
