...
Ouch. As you're well aware it could have been much much worse. Glad to hear you're doing alright, man! Did you kick the car over on its side? I would have. Awful jackass deserved it.

JonathanD
I am very glad you are ok. I assume that your hand is fractured in a place where twisting and putting pressure on it wont hurt it more? Best of luck healing. I recently was hit by a car while on my bike as well as when I was 6(both times I had the right of way. But the right of way doesnt matter when your dead does it?). When I was 6 it was bad, recently it didnt even knock me over. What I have learned is that I am the only person I can consistently count on to watch my behind. I just dont expect other people to drive well anymore. I cant even count the number of times I have had to come to a skidding stop at 20-30MPH on my bike not to get hit be a car. I did kick one car hard enough to dent it(they probably could not distinguish the new dent from the old ones). Personally, I would suggest you ask the person to stand still while you get your car up to speed and call it even. Thats just me though. Other comments; a recent study showed (if you have faith in science this may matter to you) that driving on a cell phone is as likely to cause and accident as driving with a Blood alcohol level of .08. jlrush
Sorry to hear about this man, and I hope you heal quickly. Definitely get a lawyer and sue the stooge. Drivers these days are horrible. No one pays attention, they drive too fast and follow too close, besides being on the phone. Hope the gig went well, too. Tenstrum
I managed to make it through last nights gig. Although I did forget about my middle and pinky fingers a couple of times and when I attempted to use them, I just about went to me knees from the pain. So, I'm ruling out any further gigs until I hear what the Orthopedist has to say on Wednesday. Tenstrum "Paranoid? Probably. thabottomend
I am in no way a doctor, but as a paramedic I have 12 years of experience listening to what they say when they read an x-ray. This is what I'd expect to hear them say about this one: Excellent potential for healing. No crushing, and the edges of the break are clean and will align well. This may heal so well that you don't even notice it. No ligament damage apparently. But hey, best listen to the orthopedist. He knows more than I do. How's the other appendage? From one Tennessean to another........Git well!!!!!!!!! Do not be deceived by, nor take lightly, this particular bit of musicianship one simply describes as "bass". - Lowell George "The music moves me, it just moves me ugly." William H. Paul K
I managed to make it through last nights gig.(snip)... You are much tougher than I am. Years ago I crushed my right hand pinky right at the end in a scissors style electric piano stand, ended up losing the nail. I had a gig the next night, and figured I'd be OK as that is one digit that really doesn't come into play on bass. But each time I'd touch it or bang it on the body of the bass I'd see red. The guys in your band had better appreciate your dedication. Hope they didn't make you do load in and load out..... Peace Paul K Things are just the way they are, and they're only going to get worse. Kramer Ferrington III.
So, I'm ruling out any further gigs until I hear what the Orthopedist has to say on Wednesday. Sounds like a good idea. Nobody's going to give you a medal for playing gigs in blinding pain, so listen well to whatever the ortho tells you. No point screwing up your playing out of bravado or macho or whatever. If you don't feel too foolish doing it, maybe you could take in the bass so the ortho can see what's involved? Wolf Tyrant
The "chip" is a sesamoid bone often found in joint capsules and is perfectly normal. Most folks have them and they are commonly found in that exact location and also the "ball" of your foot. The fracture is only margionaly displaced (out of alignment) nor does it look like it broke the skin thus "compounding" the injury. A couple of years of radiology school and thirteen years of experience finally pay off. Good luck on a speedy recovery.

Tenstrum
But since when do doctors offer up jpegs of your x-rays? For many years now. The technology has been around for 15+ years and was originally developed to assist in aligning patients up for proper dosage in Radiation Oncology treatments. It uses a magnetic plate to capture the image instead of traditional X-ray film. It all gets digitized and sent to wherever it needs to go over the hospital network and viewed at a PACS station. My X-ray was available to the Radiologist/M.D. within seconds after it had been captured. I'm kinda proud because I helped implement this tech within the health care system that I work for. Technically though its not a jpeg image, it's a DICOM image. When you go to pick up your X-rays now, they give you a CD with them on it. The CD has a DICOM viewer on it that displays the images, the Radiology report, and any other pertinent medical info. Seeing as how I didn't want the whole word knowing my medical info, I just did a screen capture and erased all that other jazz. Hey, a picture is worth a thousand words, right? Tenstrum "Paranoid?
