mdrs
A certain forum regular, who I am quite certain will make his presence known in this thread when he returns from his blues gig, has exacerbated my already legendary GAS After hearing about what a GREAT blues amp, and all around cool old combo the Fender Pro Amp is, I began investigating. That is what an amp-a-holic calls the process of search and obtain!! I lucked out, and found a really great 1964 blackface Fender Pro Amp complete with a beautiful 15" Jensen "Vibranto" speaker. This amp has the classic Fender "chime" in spades when played clean. It also has remarkable touch sensitivity, and allows you to really hear the pick attack when playing lead. So far, I love it!! Thanks Ellwood Here are some pics; http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m114/mdrs1/CIMG0872.jpg http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m114/mdrs1/CIMG0871.jpg http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m114/mdrs1/CIMG0876.jpg Here's two '64 Fenders.... http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m114/mdrs1/CIMG0879.jpg http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m114/mdrs1/CIMG0878.jpg Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. mdrs
Thanks, Michael. Yes, she has plenty of sisters!! Someday, I'll take a photo of all my blackface amps....they are very cool. And, you are correct, I am a very very lucky man. I don't know that it will ever happen, but I'd LOVE to retire young, and have some sort of studio where folks can use some of this great old stuff. revolead
Sweet, Don. I like the amp, and that guitar is exactly what I want, except I want a maple fretboard. Shut up and play.
mdrs
Killer guitars, did you refret? That '64 Strat is the only vintage axe I have that's been refretted. I bought if from a friend that was a touring pro, and played all over the world. He had it done by his personal luthier, who did a fantastic job. Of all the old Strats and Tele's I've played, it's the easiest to play. The old Strats and Tele's had very low frets... Otherwise it's untouched and all original.....a dream machine! mdrs
Sweet, Don. I like the amp, and that guitar is exactly what I want, except I want a maple fretboard. I actually favor maple necks myself. But, I'm not so sure that I can really tell a big difference. I have both, and the playability and overall "Stratty tone" is paramount. You'd like this; http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m114/mdrs1/CIMG0092-1.jpg btw.....that '64 is ACTUALLY a '63.....my bad. Don "There once was a note, Pure and Easy. revolead
Dang that is cool. I like the maple necks for their looks more than tone. I can tell a slight difference, with maple and ebony being brighter than rosewood, but it mostly depends on the guitar. Shut up and play.
