so, i just made a pretty decent trade. i got rid of a roland 707 drum machine, and i got a korg poly 800 (reverse key, so pretty). both worked flawlessly, and both of us were not using our current gear, but really wanted the new stuff. all good so far. everything worked lovely on the poly 800, until i wheeled my chair away from the easy chair i had set the board on. yup, the headphone cable was wrapped round the wheel of my chair, so as i pull away, the board shoots off its resting place, flips over, and lands a g key right on the wheel of my dumb-guy chair. shattered the key. i had it for 2 hours tops:( it all works fine still, but man, that missing tooth is unatractive on a pretty little board. to make matters worse, korg told me they stopped selling that part just 3 or 4 years ago. let the pity begin now! i accept pity in the forms of pats on the back, very uncomfortable hugs, and piles of pez.

That is a bummer. I take it the key cannot be glued back together? If so, that would fill the void making it less unattractive.

While Korg no longer sells the replacement key, check around on Ebay and other places. You should be able to find one.

Cheer up and good luck.

thanks! the glue trick wont work because of the way it broke...it quite litterally shattered the front portion of the key. everything forward of where it meets the black keys went into many parts:( but,the search is on of course.

I'll buy you a beer anyway.

However, I believe this is the gentleman who did indeed kill a Yamaha DX something onstage a few years ago, and then posted all kinds of googey pics of it complete with blood splatter....so I had to aks, I mean axe.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than to be smart. (I'm referring to myself)

When I worked for Alesis in late 2000/early 2001, I got to take home one of the very first production Andromedas. (It was actually a short term loaner from one of the engineers unit they could get me mine) Anyway, I was so excited and couldn't wait to get home and stay up all night playing it. I put it in the back seat of my car, keys facing forward (you can see where this is going) and as I headed up Pacific Coast Hwy, traffic in front of me came to an abrupt halt. I slammed on the brakes and as the A6 fell forward, it landed keys first on that hump between the two back seats in some cars, shattering the middle F, G, and A keys. Needless to say, my evening was ruined, but here's where the "lucky" part comes in... the next day I brought it back to work and they gave me a new one (and fixed the other one of course, no harm, no foul).

The other time luck smiled down on me similarly was the day I dropped my PowerBook, killing the display. The good news was I happened to be on the Apple campus in Cupertino, so I walked it into the main repair building, told them I was about to go into a meeting and needed my PowerBook fixed as soon as they could get to it. 45 minutes later, I had it back, good as new, and they even fixed the big dent that was there from the fall.

Timing is everything.

AWESOME CAKE!!! hope its vegan, i want some!

yea, i did smash up a yamaha pretty good, and there was a lot of blood all over the place. but, this board was not for intentional smashing:( it was for keeping!

however, i am always on the lookout for more nearly dead psr's and the like for smashing! dontate your old nearly dead beast, and i'll give it a rocking death!

Finding a non-working one is a good idea. Of course, you'll have to be patient.

I acquired a beat up Clavinet a while back. I replaced the tolex and re-tipped the hammers. However, the whole mute-slider section on the right was missing. I couldn't build or find a replacement to save my life. Eventually, I sold off the clav in parts. Of course, wouldn't you know that not too much later someone was selling the part I needed on eBay. Damn. I wish I was just patient enough to wait it out.

You could swap keys for one at the extreme end of your board while you are waiting to get a replacement.

I suggest you call around every keyboard tech you can. Someone out there may have the part still, or a dead board, or know of a clever workaround, like a similar part from a different board.
