arneyz
Okay so I relieved myself of some GAS yesterday and bought an Epiphone Casino, a guitar I've been coveting ever since I first played it (I don't know if anybody knew this but Epi is apparently discontinuing the Casino ). The P-90s in it have a great tone and it is one of the prettiest guitars I have laid eyes on (this opinion is biased of course  ). But anyway, I have decided that I don't particularly like the pick guard. It looks fine and everything, it's just not necessary because the guitar body an archtop and I like the look of these hollow bodies without the guard. I'm pretty sure I'm okay to go ahead and do it but I wanted to make sure I wouldn't be damaging the best guitar I've ever owned. Michael Patrick
Not a big deal. Just put in the case so you can reinstall it if you change your mind or decide to sell the guitar. Scott Fraser
I'm pretty sure I'm okay to go ahead and do it but I wanted to make sure I wouldn't be damaging the best guitar I've ever owned. No problem. A lot of well known Les Paul & 335 slingers have removed the pickguard. The only problem is that you're left with 2 empty screw holes, which may or may not bug you. Just be sure to carefully pack the screws with the pickguard in case you change your mind later. In fact, tape the screws to the pickguard so they're always together. Dr. Ellwood
Yeah no problem, I like to leave them on but it doesn't make any difference at all. http://www.thestringnetwork.com
arneyz
If it were a Gibson I would keep it on but the Epi pick guards look kind of cheap and plastic-y IMO. Not to mention the big "E" that almost shouts "I'm too cheap to buy a Gibson!" which is not the case since the Casino isn't really a Gibson copy. But I don't really need to explain myself to you guys, do I. So thanks again for the re-assurance. Zach Hooray for the Moon
Bluesape
No worries - one of my 355's was missing it when I bought it. I noticed about 2 years later. Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!

Squ
Yeah, where did you get the information about casino's being discontinued? I also don't think that makes any sense. Red Red Rockit
Danzilla
the Epi pick guards look kind of cheap and plastic-y IMO. could that be because... it IS plastic? Not to mention the big "E" that almost shouts "I'm too cheap to buy a Gibson!" which is not the case since the Casino isn't really a Gibson copy. I've always liked the "E"; thought it was kinda catchy. Almost classy, even. But that's just me. Enjoy playing it, however it looks. The Casino is one of their most popular instruments. I believe it's actually only the Casino ELITIST that is being discontinued, not the standard Casino, but I could be wrong. rw2003
I removed the pick guard off my Gibson Les Paul... but remember the pick guard is there for a reason. Sooner or later you'll see those light scratch marks appear. I do agree on losing that big E for Epiphones! Okay well I re-checked this statement and its not Epi that is discontinuing it, its just GC and Musicians Friend aren't carrying it anymore. Danzilla
Shows how long it's been since I've played one- I remember some of them being a raised/embossed "E": stickers on the acoustics, but a 3-D E on electrics. Got to cut costs somewhere, huh? "Am I enough of a freak to be worth paying to see?"- Separated Out (Marillion) NEW band Old band

Got to cut costs somewhere, huh? Yeah, my Epiphone Emperor jazz guitar has an embossed E on the pickguard & besides looking kinda classy, harkens back to Epiphone's days as an independent company before becoming primarily the budget line of Gibson. The Big G
well guys being the owner of a new to me Riveria I firtsly would not take the scratch plate off for no other than cosmetic reasons and as Scott mentioned The E on the pick guard shows this is a model introduced by Epiphone and not Gibson, yes we all know they are not the most expensive guitars but dont be ashamed of it otherwise save your cash and buy a Gibson 335. I like my Epis and have 3 of them and in general they are good guitars.
