Belazaras
Impossible to found proper results filling only with "PA" in the search engine case. So I must open a new thread. Sorry. Can I achieve that pro tubey sound with a preamp, power amp and two non dedicated cabinets? After reading and readin for years, I found the bass goes directly to the PA in medium / large shows, leaving the amplifiers to monitoring. Other bass players go to the show with the instrument and a preamp. We are two in the band, guitar and bass player with loops and two SM58. I need a preamp to record some stuff in my DAW, it seems to need a mixer with good preamps (Yamaha MG12/4 it´s a good start point) So, I´m plan to sell my 200W 1x15 solid state combo to buy a PA system with two 250W 15"+ driver cabinets (Peavey PV15, Yamaha S115, or Samson) I love the tube sound, so I´ll go to the PA with a Sansamp Triac or POD. Can I achieve that pro tubey sound with a preamp, power amp and two non dedicated cabinets? Precision 78 / EBMM Stingray 2006 / USA Fender Stratocaster / 2 SM58 and loops will be the source. SteveC
The logic is sound. At many gigs the bass goes to a DI and then to the PA. Stage amps should be for stage monitoring only as the bands mix should come from the PA. This is how it should work. A Pod or Sansamp which "model" other amps are really meant to be heard through full range cabs. It makes sense that youe stage rig should be similar to what the PA is so you can effectively monitor your sound. I don't think you need a mixer as the Pod or SansAmp should be able to drive a power amp. I have been tempted to do just that. I have a PodXT but I need a good power amp and full range cab(s) to really make it work. It isn't the same running it through a "normal" bass rig. alexclaber
Few compact PA speakers can handle the bottom of bass guitar. You could build a Bill Fitzmaurice Omni 15 cab, that would do a fine job if you want that uncoloured sound. Belazaras
Those "compact" PA speakers, have a 15" + titanium driver who can handle 250W at 8 ohms. Do you think they can´t handle the lows of a bass guitar? There are many bass dedicated enclosures with a 2x15 configuration. In the other hand, the PA systems can handle the sublows of a keyboard and kick drums.
alexclaber
PA systems that can handle kick drums and bass generally have separate subwoofer cabs. The 15" woofers in PA tops are generally mid-bass speakers, not true woofers, and so have insufficient excursion to produce much output below 100Hz without distortion. Belazaras
I think Fender Bassman 2x15 are full range speakers, not woofers, and it´s one of the most deep cabinet.
