AeroG33k
I'm very interested in both the Aerodyne tele and strat that have recently been discontinued (not talking about the new "classic"). (Gee, I wonder if they have subconscious appeal with my studies...) The tele is high on my GAS list right now, but I had a question about the strat...if I found one for cheap, I'd want to put a maple neck and white components (probably GFS pickups too) on it. I've seen it with both a pickguard and without one as direct mount. Since I want to do the mods and for aesthetics, I'd prefer the one with the pickguard. I know the ones that were sold more recently (From MF etc.) had no pickguard. Are the ones with the pickguard retrofit? older productions? Since it's supposed to be a radiused top, could you even retrofit one without bending? What's the deal? Please help me out here! -Andy "I know we all can't stay here forever so I want to write my words on the face of today...and they'll paint it" -Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon)
revolead
Well, I can't tell you much about the history of my guitar, but rather, what I think of it as is. Personally, I've never been a fan of pickguards. They ruin the aesthetics of the wood and make it look sorta cheap, especially to the uneducated consumer. I own four guitars, including an acoustic, and not a single one has a pickguard. As for the carved top, I don't know if you could retrofit one onto the instrument, but then again, I've never tried or heard of anyone trying. If you want an Aerodyne Tele with a maple neck and white components, I think your best bet would be just to frankenstein one together. Otherwise, you'll be paying almost 500 bucks for a beautiful guitar with a neck you won't even use. Talk to McGeoff about this; he knows. Shut up and play. AeroG33k
Thanks for the advice! If I get the tele (which right now is my favorite) I'd leave it pretty much stock. But I'm also tempted to eventually get a strat style guitar to replace my SX P90 (not bonding with it as it is), but I'd want a maple fretboard on a strat. There's something about the aerodyne series that I really like, though I have yet to play one. The pickguard on the aerodyne strat isn't that much of an issue, I just saw some cheap ones on e-bay that had a pickguard, which made me a little suspicious if it was really an Aerodyne. Thanks again! -Andy "I know we all can't stay here forever so I want to write my words on the face of today...and they'll paint it" -Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon)
revolead
Well, for me, it was all about the carved top, the belly cuts, and the all-black finish. I'm a sucker for anything in black, but especially a guitar. Shut up and play.
The Geoff
I've never seen an Aerodyne with a pickguard, but I haven't seen all Aerodynes. G. AeroG33k
So I pretty much decided that I really, really want an Aerodyne Tele. And, if I ever get a strat, I'll get a more traditional strat with a maple fretboard. Two Aerodynes would be a bit overkill anyway, although it would be kinda cool to have them match...but probably not worth it... How's the neck on the tele? My Schecter feels very slim and narrow to me which makes some chords hard...I'd assume the vintage radius would help...does it? -Andy "I know we all can't stay here forever so I want to write my words on the face of today...and they'll paint it" -Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon)
revolead
To an extent, I suppose. Mostly, the feel I get with the guitar is more twang, more blues, more bends, and less shred. Shut up and play.
